Hi, I received a solitaire pear for my engagement and I loved it, the stone is so beautiful but I wanted to make it pop out a bit so I asked my jewler to change just the head to a halo and a bit higher. Now, I feel it's too high! I don't know I feel this way because I was used to a lower head or it is really too high. I love it from top view but I am not sure from the side. Can you help me?

Way too high. It looks like it’s almost one of those ring holders they put your diamond in when you’re trying it on? The ring design is beautiful though! I love the design of the side stones!

I have never used those. Does it look like them? It's platinum so I am not sure if he can set it lower. Can he?

I think he should be able to. With the ring below for example the halo is elevated above the main ring but I feel like it’s done more “subtly”. This is just one example but I recommend maybe looking up high set pear halos from brands that are known for elegant design and seeing where you get.

I feel like with the degree to which your ring is elevated I would also worry about damage, bumping against things

Thank you for the links! Yes, I have concerns about probable damage too! I constantly watch out for objects around me.

Especially your car door jam as you enter your car.

I agree it looks super high.
I'd worry about damaging the diamond when it bangs into things.

Also the diamond sitting higher makes it more likely to snag on things like sweaters, socks, and pockets.
This is an important concern with prong settings because prongs can catch on things and bend, and you may not even notice your diamond just fell out.

This is one of those clamp rings used to see how a diamond looks on your finger prior to buying it.

That was exactly what I thought when I saw it too - it looks like the diamond try on ring at the jeweler
