Heart Shaped Emerald Ring

I’ve had this ring for decades but can’t say I’ve ever worn because it sits up so high on my hand. I’m thinking of either resetting it or turning it into a pendant. Please share any ideas you might have. I like simple with a little something extra when it comes to jewelry. While I gasp at gems laden with diamonds, I know it’s just not me. Of course, some side diamonds are always appreciated if relevant to the stone.

It’s a Colombian emerald, obviously heart shaped, and I know it’s not extraordinarily clear but that’s ok because it has meaning to me. Holding it up to a measuring tape, it’s about 9mm x 9mm

Very gorgeous and cut so unusual. Sure others more qualified will charm in on the setting but I do love emeralds in yellow gold!
 
Wow that's a pretty glowy emerald!! Is the bottom open? Can you see how far the bottom of the stone goes down?

The bottom is open. It basically goes down no more than you can see on the side.

I really like it as a ring, but if you want to do a pendant, it would be fabulous!
A simple pendant with one small diamond accent would be nice.

VERY pretty!! I think if you would wear it more as a pendant you should get it re set. It will make a lovely pendant. I would do a very simply pendant. :D
 
Thanks for your replies! I think it would actually get wear as a pendant, so that might be the best route.

I live out in the country so options are slim. I’m thinking my best bet would to be to find someone online. Now to look for ideas...

I think your emerald is very pretty and I love that it has meaning. :) Personally, I'd find someone to re-set it because it could be re-set much, much lower (and be more wearable for you). However, if a pendant is what you're thinking, then go for it! I'm just happy to know either way it'll get more wear and enjoyment. Keep us posted!
 
Thanks for all the love this emerald is getting! I will need to find a setting (for ring or pendant - not sure yet) that suits someone middle aged.

I’m really not sure what I’d like. Posting here was my very first step. I definitely need to find inspiration pictures.
 
I have to admit, I didn’t think this ring/stone would be well so liked. I’m pleased! =) (and I can’t seem to resist using this little green smiley)

As a gem beginner, I guess one can have a lovely stone and not even know it. I always knew it was glowy, but that’s about it.

Any inspiration idea pictures would be greatly appreciated. Or recommend jewelers. I’ve heard David Klass and Yvonne mentioned several times, so I might start looking there.

I don't think Yvonne will set outside stones- but don't take my word for it.
DK is a good choice, ive used him as well.
If you don't feel comfortable with reading CADs, and end up going that route- posting them here for review/advice is always a great idea.

Your ring!!! From the top it does look very much like mine. What a pretty setting you have!

Well.... I suppose I would be uncomfortable reading a CAD because I don’t know what that is. I’ll learn before I move forward.
 
I think that would look amazing as a pendant....whatever you choose will be great but I'd go with what you will enjoy wearing the most. I can see how the current setting could be uncomfortable or awkward to wear. Great dilemma to have!
 
This is pretty if I go the pendant route. It’s simple and would allow the emerald to shine. I’d go with 14K or 18K yellow gold.

What a unique shape/cut for an emerald, very pretty stone. It reminds me a bit of fine translucent imperial jadeite. I would set it in a bypass with a smaller pink heart shaped stone

I love it too! I would definitely reset it and add a diamond halo in a pendant or pave to the band if resetting into another ring.
