IMG_2172.JPG IMG_2173.JPG Hi All,

This heated sapphire with no certificate was presented to me for $4500, please let me know if anyone's trained eye sees anything wrong with cut color etc it's 10.13x8.40, I don't know if the asking is too much. Was presented to me by a respected jeweler (pricescope recommended). Please provide thoughts

Seems a bit expensive to me for uncertified and unheated.
What is the carat weight?
That said, finding a nice purple sapphire seems pretty hard to do, not lots of options about, so if you really love it - you might have to pay the $$$$.

3.74 carats. Maybe b/c I am new to this I don't understand why this color is so hard to find. Jeff white said he saw it at get shows but 9+mm may be difficult. If it was unheated without certificate I wouldn't hesitate but I don't want to overpay. Thoughts on the saturation, cut?

That is a big stone, should be somewhere in the region of 5 cts. So price per ct. seems ok to me. But it should be sent off for a lab report. The vendor can probably help you with that. Edit: just saw your post, price per ct. still seems ok to me.

Other question is what is the nick at 3 o'clock in the first pic? Lint, or a surface reaching inclusion?

I didn't notice what you pointed out, I will ask. The vendor says they can get me a GIA $300 expedited....

The designer sourced this stone, before they go forward I have to see the stone in person which is $100 overnight to and from. I do like really like the color, and size. Just feel it's expensive for heated

You should definitely get a report done. If nothing else it will help you resell it -- in the unlikely event that you want to upgrade or recover some of your money later. Also this stone will require a custom mount as it is not a calibrated size and if you want a halo it won't be cheap (you'll need a lot of pave work which costs twice over for the diamonds and the oodles of time to set them), so the ~ 400 or so will come out in the wash as a small expense. Can you see it before you send it to gia? Would they be willing to send it to AGL instead?

Of course you'd want to know if it shifts colour in different lightings, if there are any feathers (especially near the girdle) or surface reaching inclusions, what the return policy is like, and what the mark at 3 o'clock is first. So I think you need to ask more questions before doing anything else.

Maybe others can chime in - but a basic AGL report that tells you that it's mined and not lab-grown would be cheaper. I'm also curious about the black dot at 9:00.

I will ask about the AGL. I have asked about inclusions and am awaiting a response. I think I will look into some preferred vendors to see if any new stones available.

This is what I got back about the stone.

The stone is mostly eye clean. However, there are visible inclusions when looking at the stone under a loupe. The photo and video in the second set were taken with a macro lens, so that you could see a more detailed image of the stone.

In the close up image there is a black dot at the 3 o clock position, which is not as visible when looking at it with your naked eye - the facets sort of hide it.

Sorry, I see I said 9:00 - I meant 3:00 (I must be upside down today).

Can you ask for more photos? Preferably with a white background?

updated one pic, I think they are done providing me pics they would like me to see it in person $100 overnight fee round trip.

Well that pix is useless.

If I were you, I'd ask them to send it to AGL. They have a service called Gembrief:.http://aglgemlab.com/gembrief

It's a very brief overview - weight, measurements, and if the stone has been treated .It doesn't give origin or anything else like some of the pricier reports do, but before spending money on seeing it in person, I'd want to k ow if it has any treatments.

Suggest AGL and see what they say. With a potential sale of $4500, they should gladly accommodate.

Hmmm, lovely colour and size (although the black dot would bother me personally). For that price they should be happy to provide certification. Keep us posted! :wavey:

I asked the jeweler (Canera) to reach out to Widfish gems to get one sourced. Hopefully that goes through. I will keep everyone posted

The AGL gem brief is what you're speaking of I believe. It is less expensive, but I would double check with them on diffusion pricing testing.

If the stone doesn't shift to a much more desaturated color in various lighting, I do like it. I like the secondary lavender color, and it's not flat in cokor luke so many purple sapphires. I would still ask the questions posed above by qubitasaurus. I think the price is fair, not a bargain, but fair.

I think the color is really beautiful, but I would want a report to know what I'm getting. AGL brief should be sufficient.

the venndor they sourced it from gave very little information and i was not satisfied with that. This one was presented to me (I'll try to get better pics to post)lavender sapphire.jpg color change gia.jpg

It looks pretty gray. Did you see Jeff White’s latest FB post? He sourced a GORGEOUS stone for somebody... you could ask him to do the same! :kiss2:

I got a spinel from Jeff white i would rather not have him source a stone for me....

From my eyes the stone doesn't have grey, more pics not the greatest
