I put this ring on my ring finger. And since it's too big, I tied a little piece of plactic in the back to keep it down....

I'm a size 3 1/4.

specs: 3.05 carat " I " color SI-2.

from: GOODOLDGOLD

setting: STULLER 4 prong bombe shank comfort fit.

That's a LITTLE TOO BIG for you in my opinion...but then again, size matters, I know!

I have a 1.07ct and a size 4.5 finger and I think mine looks just right!

It's GORGEOUS though, don't get me wrong..... very beautiful!!!!

Wow Leota that thing is monstrous! Your Mom is going to love it

My ring finger is a 6 so I can DEFINITELY carry it off. Haa Haa but I will need to wait a while first...

I love how you can even see the arrows in most of the shots, and it looks so big when laying on it's side. Really amazing and super sparkly.

Leota..I really think you should consider giving this ring to your mom as soon as possible..

I am of course kidding, but with your current obsession the diamond is drawing you in and is slowly trapping you taking over your sense of right and wrong...Will this ring end up on your finger girl? Lol...

haha..

Yeah, I think I need to give it to her soon!!! I keep wearing it around the house "just for fun"... and being real careful not to put any marks on the platinum. But we'll give it to her tomorrow night. Christmas Eve dinner. 4 of us girls.. and some other family members... friends, and our dogs .. 3 of them..

I really can't wait. All these young men wanna see the look of their gf's face when they see the ring, I can't wait to see my mother's face! When I went to a jewler to ask about a setting for my mother, she told me most likely it's going to make her cry... But whatever happens... this is the biggest gift we've all ever gotten her.. Just want her to really, love it.

So, what do you guys think? Save it as the last gift of the night to open with all guests around? Or should it be private as the last gift after all guests have left? And tell her we still have one unopened gift? Or should we put it under the Christmas tree and hide it along with the other gifts so it can't be found till all gifts have been opened?

What do you guys think??

Congratulations for the wonderful gift! As for the presentation strategy... why not giv your mother the choice about how to present her gift to your guests? This would mean giving it to her in advance. Of course, I have no idea about the tradition of gift giving in your family: this is just something I would consider.

Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow

Leota, I have a few things to say to you...

Wow, wow, and wow!!!!!!!!

That is some kind of headlight!!! And you have beautiful hands *and* nails! I seem to have missed the story behind this ring, can you please post a link to the thread for me? Sounds like a very special gift and I'm interested to hear how this is received by your mom.

Hi K-Mom..

There's really no "real" thread yet. Basically it was just a lot of questions here and there. But what we (my 3 sisters and I) decided this year we're going to get our mother something very nice, with lots of meaning... Something she would never get herself. So, we came up with many things and finally decided on this.... because.. our father buys her many nice things... that come in handy.. takes her on trips.. buys her a pair of earrings and necklace here and there. But he doesn't know too much about diamonds.. so I guess he's never really bought like a "real" diamond ring for her or anything.. Also.. when they got married, waaaay back then he was still a grad student.. coming to the states.. and my mom had to stay in Taiwan for a year with the first oldest sister before everything's all set up for them to come here too. So they basically just have the plain gold band they got married with. And starting a family I guess isnt' really easy. All their life from what I see is that they work really hard, save a lot of money, provide for all of us, pays for our tuition.. we never had to want for anything cuz we have everything.
21.gif
So this is what we came up with... the biggest diamond ring all of us can evenly chip in for. And being the youngest one.. and my sisters think with the least stuff to do on hands.. (i.e. no kids.. no husband) I was put in charge to shop look around and find the information. And this is when I found pricescope. And THANK YOU everyone that's helped me a long... I've really truly learned a lot... certainly know much more than before. ~~~ Finally I decided (then got their "okay" ,.. make sure they like it too.. and explain how the "I" color and the clarity will actually be okay cuz of the cute) on the 3.05 I color SI-2 from GOG. Yep, that's basically it and what has happened so far. Now I just need an idea for us to present the gift.

Leota,
That is one gorgeous ring!!! It looks great on your beautiful hands, too.
CGN is right though, Be careful with it. Who knows? Maybe you'll end up like Smeagol in Lord of the Rings.............

My precious..........my precious..........

Leota..also on the 'giving' thing..I would see if you can find an opportunity to take your mother aside with your father and your sisters (e.g. immediate family) and tell her what the plan was (not the result) and then let her open it. That would be very touching, and if you do it before the rest of the guests arrive, she can be wearing it to show off!

Yeah, I think the ideas you guys came up with is better. To give it to her before all the guests arrive..

*sigh* so not more wearing a 3 carat.

She cried. She loved it. And then she cried some more.. and then there was laughter.

That day all of us came over early in the morning to help prepare., we spent the whole morning shopping for grocery, preparing food, cleaned the house. While my mother wasn't paying attention, I brought "the gift" in from my car and put it in the guest room. And then about 2 hours before the guests were suppose to arrive, my sisters, my father, and I sat down... brought tea and some dessert (cheesecake) out and we all sat close to the fire place with the fake burning wood.. haha.. just talking..and listening to my mother talk about what's going on tonight...and who's coming with who.. and little stuff like that. And after a little bit, it got kinda quiet.... cause I guess everyone was thinking: so? now? do we give it to her???

and mother's, they can sense EVERYTHING right? so she's like, "what.... what's going on?" at that time I told her how this year we only have 1 gift to give her. So I got up, went into the guest room and brought out the gift. we decided the ring would be presented in a big handcrafted jewlery box.. with black lining inside and when you open the box, the ring tray is elevated right in the middle with the diamond sitting upright, right in the middle of it. So I hand the gift to her, sat back down... By now.. .she looked nervous.. like not knowing what to expect.... and asked us how come she's not opening her gift with all of us at the end of the night like we always do. and we told her because we wanted her to be able to use it first.. in the beginning of the evening...

so as we were telling her this she started to unwrap this huge package.. first the wrapping paper,... then the paper box of the jewlery box.. she looked at it and was blown away at the craftmenship of the thing.. and was telling us how beautiful it was... she was looking at us as she was saying this.. and we all still had this weird twitchy look on all our faces cuz she still hasn't seen the REAL gift yet!!!!!!.. ... and she was looking a little puzzled.. but as she was talking.. she was starting to open the box to have a peek inside... and as she started to look down.... and began to focus right in the middle.. she stopped talking for about 3 seconds...... and in 3 seconds.. tears welled up in her eyes so fast. I could tell she was trying to hold it in. I think if she spoke it would come out in a little sobbing sound. Then she took a deep breath and let out a little laugh... By then all of us had tears in our eyes.. and I noticed my dad's eyes were red. She just stared at it.. and we were all telling her try it on... she was a little shocked at the moment... then she slowly removed the ring from the box .. (and I was pointing to her ring finger) slid it on.... peeeeerfect fit!

We used to always joke around with her that one day we're gonna put the biggest rock on her finger.. this was a few years back.. and on one particular night.. my sisters and I discussed this and said one day this is what we would do.

After I got a tissue for everyone.. we talked about the story of the diamond... the hearts and arrows... even showed her the arrows with the loupe I got from GOG with the ring. AND THEN she tried to find out how much it was. hahahaha.....

we agreed she didn't need to know. she would look at us with a very disapproving look.. jokingly of course........... but we agreed we'd keep it a secret.

so after a while the close family friends.. and relatives started to arrive.... some of the relatives that knew about the ring project went straight to the hand! (oh, and we have those... uhh... bright lights kinda like the jewlery store? on the ceiling that comes in a row?) the ring was sparkling like mad! they oooohed and aaaahed..... and my mother.. usually shy and modest about these things.. just smiled and thanked them for the compliments and told them it's a gift from all of us for Christmas.

the day before ..one of my sisters and I , we treated her to a manicure and pedicure.. (to prepare her for the ring/idealbb/images/smilies/naughty.gif) and know what? the ring looked beautiful on her hands!!

that night was wonderful.. good food .. family, friends.. it was warm..... it was really wonderful....... and we did it... something we really wanted to do for our mom since a while back......... I really enjoyed that night..we all did.. doing this for her and watching her get her gift.... it's really worth it.. It was a wonderful night..................

What a wonderful story.......thanks so much for sharing it, Leota.

What an awesome tribute to your mother. I don't think I've read a ring story, yet, that made me cry like this one.
