"Heirloom" garnet earrings

A bit orange. I'm guessing they would be dark. But the price point is better than having them custom-made from rubellite or certainly spinel.

If there's a good return policy...

There is a good return policy. And the price is not bad at all.

Garnet is red but nothing like ruby. Low dispersion and often with a muddy undertone. The can be very dark and “flat looking” in low low lighting You’d need to see them in person to see how they perform in real life so a good return policy is recommended.
Agree that Rubelite would be a better choice.
Would you consider lab ruby?

I've seen some spectacular red garnet (I have some) but they are certainly the exception and not the rule. I'd want to source my own if it were for a project that was important to me

I think this is the thing. And here you’re not even seeing a picture of the actual stones you’d get. I wouldn’t do it. Have you seen some of the recommended colored stone vendors? You can ask what they can source that may not be currently in stock, and they can show you pictures. Also, if you’re already compromising by looking at garnets, take a look at lab rubies. They’d be a super affordable placeholder or permanent piece.

Angara doesn't show pics of the actual stones, so I'd avoid them

I think I may give these a try simply because of the price and the fact that they have a good, no questions asked return policy. I've been doing some digging online and it seems they have mostly good reviews.
