Hello, I've read these boards off and on for several years but always have way more to look at than post. Most of my personal jewelry collection is pearls and a few smaller pairs of diamond studs. BUT, that is all changing! I recently inherited several pieces of jewelry that belonged to my late grandfather's previous (deceased also) wife. She had no heirs and I was close with him, so most of her jewelry has passed to me. I took both rings to Union Diamonds here in Atlanta and they could not have been more wonderful looking at them and cleaning them for me, I will be taking a few things to them to be reset soon! I have NO idea what, if anything, I will do with these. I'm nowhere close to being engaged anytime soon, and I really am not a round girl anyway. My preferred shapes are aschers and emeralds, but it will be hard to pass on this whopper.
Included in the collection are two gorgeous rings, including this massive solitaire. I wasn't expecting it, had never seen any of these pieces, and when the ring box was open I literally gasped! I didn't even fully believe that it was real until the jeweler looked at it.
This is about 40 years old and is set in a four prong 14k white gold setting. It is about a size 6.5 (I wear a 5.5) and was with an eternity band of 32 single cut diamonds that throw off a lot of sparkle.
Carat weight for the solitaire we estimated at around 2.25 ct. Estimated clarity is VVS1-2 but it could be IF,it is very white but obviously it's hard to get a read when the diamond is set. It seems to be pretty deep at about 5mm, it is 8.5mm in diameter and the table is 5mm. The eternity band diamonds are SI, everything looks pretty white and a few stones are a little loose.
The second ring has a beautiful Old English cut stone that is a true heirloom. It was my grandfather's mother's and dates back to the late 1800s. The stone was reset in the 1960s into the current setting which is broken in several places. It appears to be at about 1 carat and fairly well cut for the time. It reflects a lot of light and is very sparkly in person. I believe I like it more than the large stone and wish I had two to turn into studs!
This necklace came along for the ride as well. The center stone is exceptional and appears to be 1.75 ct with 14 other small diamonds. It looks flawless so far unless something is hidden under a prong. The chain is quite heavy and a little long for my taste. It came from Maire & Berkele who were a high end jeweler here in Atlanta (bought by Mayor's). I wish I could truly capture the beauty of these stones! One of the guys at Union Diamond was very impressed with this piece and the center stone and he truly delighted in telling me all about it
I like it much better when it's just a few inches shorter:
There are a few other pieces, some bracelets, pins, another ring, etc. that I may post as well
