Hello, I just asked to join the LIW list and I just wanted to introduce myself (and my bf).

My bf and I have been together for 2.5 years and we have grown/matured together tremendously.
We had an extremely rocky start but I''m glad to say we''re great now.

Several of his friends are getting married in the next year or so and we''ve been receiving their Save the Dates and registry information, so, of course, I''m being led to WeddingChannel and all those other fun sites and browsing the couple''s websites.

Well, one day, I stumbled across this forum and was talking to my boyfriend about it and how there''s a WEALTH of information re: diamonds and how if he ever plans on buying me more diamonds, he should do his research here first.

He teased me by saying, "You wouldn''t happen to be waiting for the "big" diamond would you? I thought you didn''t want to get married?"

This is true. I never planned on getting married but I never thought I would meet the perfect guy for me either.

Well, I responded with "Well, I''m not going to tell you now, am I? You''re going to have to work for it."

He then said, "I am. But try to make a decision by next year, yeah?"

I just laughed but I hope that means he plans on proposing next year!

Since then I''ve been lurking on this forum and trying to get ideas for the type of ring I want. There are so many beautiful ones out there! It''s a blessing and a curse to have found this site! I''m an emerald/step cut kind of girl, I love the elegance and simplicity of it but I think I want a traditional RB for an engagement ring (which he''s well aware of).

We''re actually going to several B&M stores today just to look and get an idea for what size looks good on my finger and how sensitive I am to color and take a look at some settings.
Yay!

Welcome!!!

Here''s hoping your stay on the list is short and sweet!

Hello! Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!

Well, my boyfriend and I went to Tiffany, Harry Winston, and Nathan Alan yesterday.
My experience at all three stores was great! All the sales people were extremely nice and helpful. Our rep at Harry Winston was telling us stories about Mr. Winston and how he got started and how the company's no longer in the family but the new owners are awesome, etc etc. Nathan Alan's family owned and you can tell they're very knowledgeable about diamonds. I was regurgitating some things that I learned from PriceScope (while my bf looked in awe and later asked me to teach him what I know) and she was able to answer all my questions and didn't seem surprised at all. Tiffany's rep was very helpful and nice as always.

We stopped by DeBeers and Cartier but everyone was already helping others so we didn't get to sit down and look at anything. Didn't go into VanCleef.

I love that there are so many stores with eye candy in SCP!

Oh btw, for those who have HW diamonds or plan on purchasing one, I guess the new owners/company that bought HW allow an upgrade with the APPRECIATED value of your stone. I don't know if that's customary for all stores but I thought that was neat. So if you bought a 2 ct HW diamond back in the 1960s and it was worth 15k and now you want to upgrade and that stone is now appraised to be 40k, the 40k is what can be used towards your upgrade.

I was contemplating among micropave settings, simple solitaire, or simple setting with pears or baguettes. I really like the simple solitaire and baguettes the best. Pave/eternity settings look too much on my short stubby fingers.

I LOVE the split shank look of HW and Leon Mege.

Nathan Alan has awesome settings too.

I also realized that big diamonds look "fake" on me and don't really go well with my short stubby fingers. I would really like a 2 ct though! Although that's big too!!

My bf was appreciative when I told him big diamonds don't look good on me and I would prefer one under 2 ct. He hopes I continue to think that way. Stories from this forum tell me otherwise..

I don't care to get the diamond in those stores, esp now since I know I can get great quality diamonds and better prices from the vendors here but it's up to the BF where the ring comes from.

We both had a lot of fun and he said he has an idea of what I like now. He also said that he almost wished he can try those diamonds on too, hehehehehehe.

We'll be going back though since HW had no RB solitaires in stock/vault but there was one in our price budget in NY. The rep said he'll try to get it in within 2 weeks for me to try on. So I'll try on the solitaire and the baguette one again and see which setting I like more! He also mentioned that a lady in Japan will be visiting the States and she ordered this beautiful vivid fancy yellow X ct (can't remember how many carats it was) ring and it might come in when the NY ring comes in so I can gawk at it if she hasn't picked it up yet. Yay!

I know that the guy usually surprises the girl with the engagement ring but I'm awfully picky and it's still up to him where he gets the diamond. I'm just helping him out with what type of setting I like. :)

Sorry for the long post but now I'm all giddy thinking about all the sparky, shiny diamonds again.

Such a happy post!!! I can hear happiness in your voice and see the smile on your face when I read this! And if the BF likes diamonds...show him some of the men''s bling in the Men''s Eye Candy thread over in Show Me The Ring!

So glad you had a successful shopping trip!

Thank you, vc10um!
I''m reading what you highlighted in my post..oh my, my horrible grammar. haha!

Hmm, I don''t think we''d be able to support TWO diamond lovers! :)

but thanks for letting me know about that part of the site, I''ll send him there, maybe he''d want a diamond on his wedding band! He hates accessorizing and wearing watches and things like that..all I know is if we get married, he can''t use that as an excuse. I''m supergluing that band to his finger.

Haha...yeah, my FF doesn''t wear a single ounce of jewelry...not even a watch! But, I showed him the men''s bling thread and he surprisingly liked some of the more "fun" type stuff...I was expecting him to want a perfectly plain band, but now I think we might get him something that''s mixed YG/WG with either some bling or some milgrain or other detailing.
