Hello...

I got engaged this past August. Due to my FI''s job situation, an assignment across the world, we''re not getting married until 2012. Just wondering if there were others with a long engagement period and if you''ve started planning anything? Any ideas when you''ll start? I think next year we''ll scope out venues and maybe get a planner. 2011, dress shopping and the heavy duty stuff.

I''ve started keeping a journal of ideas I''ve thought of and inspirations (many of which I''ve already gotten from you girls who have excellent taste).

I actually can''t envision my ideal wedding. I just know that aspects that I like and that I''d want to enjoy the most.

I really enjoy the discussions in this forum and hope to participate as much as possible.

Welcome! I got engaged in April 2008, but also due to my FI''s job and a relocation we are not getting married until January 2011.

I waited about 6+ months after our engagement to even think of planning. We moved abroad so then our twice a year trip back to the states was when we started to plan. First trip-venue searching...second trip...changed our mind about the venue, signed a new one.

The nice thing about having so much time is that you can really be organized and relaxed about it and there is no rush.

Congrats on your engagement.

Unfortunately I could not relocate with him, as he is on a "single status" assignment. He comes home every 2 months for about 2 weeks. During the time he''s here, I''ll make sure to get his input on the main things.

I''m really looking forward to taking my time and hoping for a highly organized day.

I think it would be great to have that much time to figure out what you both really want. After I had already made a lot of decisions and then looked more into things I saw other colors/styles/etc. that I would have preferred but didn''t have time to make any changes. I would probably start looking at invitations because that is where I got most of my wedding inspiration, from other people''s color combos and designs. Plus you have time to work on a lot of DIY projects!!!

Welcome, and congrats!!!! My engagement is going to be prtty long (17 months when we marry in July) and vendors thought I was out of my mind when I was booking from March-August. I just didn''t care, though. I had my reasons for doing things.
The only thing that would worry me about your situation is if you have a change in what you want. For example, if you buy a dress now, in a year, you may have a totally different vision in your mind about the dress you want to wear. Gathering ideas about your wedding, though, is totally acceptable
