I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Victoria Jane for Ronald Joyce dress. There aren''t any vendors listed outside the UK on the website however. Is there any way to see the dress or order the dress here in the US? Have you seen anything similar available in the US? I''m so sad!

You will find similar dresses at Mikaella Bridal. Loved the simplicity of them myself, but the hubby-to-be prefers a little beading, etc.

Thanks for the help. These dresses are similar but not quite what I wanted. What if I tried on the Jim Hjelm for fit/style check and ordered it from a UK store? Is that just the craziest idea known to woman or is it a "do what you gotta do to get your dress" attitude? Am I being rational? I stayed up way too late last night emailing UK bridal shops and found some that would ship to me!

Okay gang, I''m going to hunt down the Mikaella dress similar to this one...trying it on for style/fit. Maybe I''ll like it more and I won''t have to have a dress shipped! Wish me luck!! I sure hope getting a dress from England isn''t a crazy, bridezilla type of thing to do.

Also, I see other brides on the forum having experiences buying more than one dress in their search, and was thinking maybe we should have our own board where we can sell our dresses to other PS''ers.

If you are buying from the UK, be warned that dresses cost $$$$ more here than the US - even if the designer is the same. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer direct?

I''m getting reasonable quotes from the bridal shops. Looks like the dress costs ~1000 (~510-550 pounds). BUT I''m getting shipping quotes up to $300 for FedEx! Can this be right!? How much does it cost to ship a dress in the US? Wowsers! Are they trying to rip me off?

That sounds about right for FedEx from the UK to the States.

Have you thought of shipping by another route. The Royal Mail ship overseas and it would cost a lot less. You can use one of their tracking systems. Have a look at their website and see if there is anything you would feel happy with - it would take longer than FedEx though.

Okay, so I just heard back from a UK bridal shop and they say this dress is made of taffeta. TAFFETA? The least flattering, noisy, stiff fabric ever?! REALLY!? I have a hard time believing it, but this sure makes the decision easier....

Taffeta isn't just the stuff of 80's prom dresses any more.

The tafetta used in wedding dresses now (at least the ones I've seen) isn't stiff or even really that noisy. Noiser maybe than silk or satin, but not wind pants noisy at least.

ETA: taffeta is a very light fabric also, so it can be much cooler than satin.

Hi misysu, have you checked out Leeann Belter? She has a couple of things similar, the Maya from the 07 collection and Liz from the 06 collection. I also particularly love her Jaculine and kaitlyn

you might want to also check out the casablanca 1831. They have many Casablanca dealers here and its the same material and cut it looks like of your dress

Ooooh and what about Chia Lieu 1365

Thanks Joy. I like the Mikaellla, but unfortunately the only store who carries that line doesn''t carry that dress. It''s amazing how difficult it is to find some of these dresses in Houston of all places.

I''m also frustrated because another UK bridal shop emailed me back and told me the dress is made out of chiffon. CHIFFON?! Can''t anyone make up their minds?! What gives?

Did you ask if they could get it for you to try on? Sometimes they will just order it so you can try it on or do a swap with another store that has it. I also found a website for the Ronald Joyce and it says the dress is taffeta (it looks like taffeta to me) http://www.hitched.co.uk/fashion/fashionsupplier.aspx?supplierid=10&sectionid=1

And have you thought about ebay? There are a couple of dealers on there that carry her line here in the states.

None of the stores could get it for me to try on because they''d have to send it overseas, plus customs charges, which could put them back as much as $200. I''ll keep an eye out for Ebay dresses, though! I just realized I''m running low on time and need to really hit the racks aggressively now!

I guess the store who wrote that the dress is chiffon will not be getting my business any time soon!

well the dress may have a chiffon overlay you really cant tell. Oh and I found another forum (it must have been a Uk forum) if you google the designer and style # there are quite a few that have this dress on the forum so you might want to ask one of them and see if they have any pics with the dress on?
