This is the first time I have attached a picture - hopefully it worked.

Anyway, I finally decided on a center stone, the 1.79 Tolkowsky from GOG, and am having Leon Mege do the setting. I want a HW type setting that has baguettes on the side. I received the (hopefully) attached picture from Leon today that shows some baguettes. Since I have never done this before, it is really hard to tell what size the baguettes should be. I am inclined to defer to Leon, but I am trying to have a part in this too. I looked at the following posts to see a ring Leon Mege with baguettes and a HW with baguettes. Based on the other Leon Mege ring, it seems to me that the baguettes should be a little longer. And based on the HW it seems that the baguettes maybe could be a little more narrow. But I am worried the camera plays tricks on me because in the Leon Mege link that I have attached it looks like the baguettes are fairly wide in the example photo, but on the finished ring they look nice and narrow. Any thougts, suggestions or comments to help me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

poorboy, i think the difference is in perspective. When all 3 stones are set, not laid out on same surface as on this photo, the baguettes are lower than the center from the same face-down point of view AND tilted down the shank. That's why they appear smaller.
Please let me know if you need illustrations.

Thanks for the response! I thought this much was true (hence my reference to the photograph playing tricks on me). Given this, I would be very grateful to get responses from anyone who has dealt with this to let me know if they think the stones should be longer or not and/or thinner or not. I know it is personal preference, but it is just hard to tell due to the perpective issue. I really like the picture of snoopers leon setting and it looks like it is about the same relative width, but relatively a little longer. So perhaps my initial reaction of wanting to see slightly longer baguettes is correct.

I think I would be interested in seeing an illustration if you have one handy - it may prove helpful.

Here are Snoopers baguettes with your rb, I will post her layout next to ring view next, the difference in baguettes appearance shown very well.

See how relatively substantial the baguettes look on the layout (magnified a lot too!) and how they are not as much on the ring picture.

Wow - I can''t tell you how appreciative I am of that - it really makes it clear when you added my RB to her baguettes. So it looks to me like the width is about the same (could be slightly narrower) but the length is definitely a little more. Thanks again!!!

You are welcome poorboy, but because i don't know any of the proportions of your or Snoopers baguettes, we can't tell that.

ETA: even rings sizes may influence baguettes appearances, there are should be different balances for let's say 3.5 and 7.5 size rings because of the angles.

I would defer to Leon, I think they look lovely!

Oh, Poorboy, what an excellent ring you are making! I think it looks perfect!

Thanks diamondseeker. It was you that first alerted me to the center stone.

I sincerely loved that diamond and am very happy to see it being set in such an outstanding setting! Please don''t forget to post pictures when you get it!

Oh sorry for the late reply, I saw this post while trying to find my posts:) The bags are according to the paper:

6.70x3.50x1.70mm

Also the ring that the admin kindly posted as the BEFORE pic.. I had Leon pick new bags as the previous ones .51 tcw were too small in my opinion

Here is the after pic, size 7

Oh, also, initially I thought this pair of bags were too long when he sent me 5 different side stone pictures. In the end I had him pick a pair and he gave me a good explaination and I''m thrilled with the size.
