Hi all. I'm looking at getting a ring (I never wore jeweler other than a watch but now with my fiance and her ring, I'm jealous and can't wait to be able to wear a wedding ring!)

I need some help with choosing ring size. I'm between two sizes right now and need a final push in one direction.

I'm getting a 4mm comfort fit ring and have been using a 4mm ring sizer (plastic one from e-wedding bands) to figure out ring size. It is currently been getting hotter and more humid in NY. It's not summer weather or anything, but definitely not cold. I have a feeling my fingers could swell more when it's hotter and very humid. And they could definitely shrink more when cold and dry. I'm thinking my finger size now is basically at it's "average" or around that.

So, first I tried the 7..5. It slides on and off easily. Little to no resistance, even when just tugging at it.

Then I tried the 7. It slides on well and fits nicely around my finger. Not loose at all, but not tight either, just snug. When trying to take it off, I first thought the ring was too small based on this. However, it was because I just tugged at it and often wouldn't focus on straightening/relaxing my finger. All the skin (I have fleshy fingers) would just get caught. If I do straight/relax my finger, the flesh still gets caught, but I can just gradually slide it off, taking about 2 seconds with a nice and easy pull. I then realized I could take it off with such ease by just putting pressure on the underside of the ring and then sliding it off. It doesn't get caught on my flesh at all and slides off almost instantly. To me, this seems perfect. I can take it off easily when I intend to and when tugged at it really can't come off at all. I feel pretty secure having this size on that I won't go having my ring fall off by accident.

I decided to go to a local jeweler and try a real ring. They happened to have a 3mm sizing in quarter sizes! So, I tried the 7. And it was the same story as above. The jeweler tried getting off by yanking and said too small. I tried the 7.25 and upon tugging at it, it gave resistance, but not much. I really didn't need to straighten/relax my finger or pull gradually to get it off. It just tugged off in like 1 second with a pull. She said that was slightly too big and that I was between 7 and 7.25. I guess I can see that.

Ultimately, I just don't know what to do. I don't really think places get down to 1/8 sizes. Plus, the 7 does come off very easily if done "correctly" (i.e. pushing the bottom or tugging gradually with a straight finger), even after going for a run with it on and during this moderately warm weather.

What do you guys think? I guess my one concern is that the 7 would be too small once the actual heat and humidity of the summer comes along. I don't know though. It is a comfort fit which I've heard tend to fit bigger than the size indicates, so it might end up fitting more like a 7.25 anyway?

And then I'm scared about the bigger size causing my ring to fall off by accident. I don't have big knuckles (in comparison to finger size), so I don't trust them to keep my ring as secure as if they were larger.

I apologize for all the typing, but hopefully it helps give you guys a good idea of how the rings fit me and what size you think I should get. I really need help deciding! I appreciate any and all advice. Thanks guys!

If you go with the one that can slide easily but still has some resistance to it (meaning it won't slip off your hand when your arm is at your side, or in cold weather) you could also ask the jeweller to solder in small sizing beads. Women often do this when their knuckles have enlarged but their finger diameter is smaller, as an example.

If your hand eventually 'grows into' the larger size, you can have the beads removed. You can also have a simple band stretched if you need to, but only slightly. That may buy you a 1/4 size later on...

Definitely the 7.25. I can't stand a ring that is too tight. And as you said, you aren't even to the hot, humid weather yet. I'd want it to have extra room now. And a quarter size really is nothing. I wear rings that differ by a quarter size all the time.
