Hi everyone,

Lurker but making a post to get advice from the community. Nice to meet you all. :)
I don't have much experience with gems and looking for help with a tanzanite ring.

I bought a tanzanite ring that is a beautiful blue and violet color. While I love the color I can see through the stone when the lighting isn't good. I've taken photos straight on and under different lightings. Is it normal for tanzanites to have windows or does it mean the stone isn't cut well?

I don't have any paperwork on the ring, but bought from a reputable store on ebay.
Details from listing: Tanzanite is approximately 7cts, 11mm x 13mm. The diamonds are 0.7 ct, ideal cut, and G-H color. 18k White gold. In total I paid $3k.

When I saw the photos online I loved the color and how it sparkles but I don't know if this tanzanite is a good one. Should I keep this ring or search for one with a better tanzanite?

Thanks!

What a stunning color and Great size  it is normal for tanzanites to have windows as they are mostly cut for weight so it is the improper angles used when cutting that gave it the window. I think from the pictures it isn't sooooo badly cut, but based on the video it is terribly cut .

If you're not happy, I would return it. I've kept stones and jewelry pieces I wasn't 100% happy with, and I wish I had the money back to use for something I truly love. Tanxanite isn't so rare and hard to find that you can't get a piece you truly love.

Besides, to be honest, tanzanite is a soft brittle stone, and unless you're super super careful with your jewelry and you won't wear it that often, I'd be wary of such a large stone in a ring. It is more likely to get banged on something. That's more of a pendant stone to me. If you do decide to keep it, I would have it converted to a pendant.

I'm with TL on it. Cut isn't that bad and if you love it, why not? However, if you aren't mind clean about it and are still within the return window, then it might be wise to consider returning it and getting something you'll be over the moon with 100%.

I think it’s beautiful. However, if you are not in London be with it, you probably won’t wear it much and that is a lot of money to spend on Saturday nothing you might not wear. I only noticed the window in the video as well.

If you don't love it, don't keep it.
