I decided a few months ago that I wanted a tennis bracelet, however, after a few months researching I narrowed my vision to an old cut line bracelet in memory of my grandma who passed last year at nearly 103. I had set an up to 5k price range for myself. I want something wearable, lovely, with old cuts, and ideally art deco.
A couple weeks ago, @Dreamer_D posted a 1.5ctw bracelet on SGBTP thread and I purchased immediately. The bracelet did not pass the authorization process so I had to repurchase after a few days. In the meantime, I found another bracelet 2.5ctw ish, they accepted my offer for less.
They both need some tlc. The 2.5ctw latch is loose and will slide off if the safety closure is not secured and there is no safety chain but has attachments (one open) for a chain. Some of the diamonds are quite wonky, even seem to be set tilted in their settings (see pic). Two of the box settings are soldered together. One stone appears to have been replaced and is modern.
The 1.5ctw bracelet is so beautiful. These stones seem newer and better cut. It’s a smaller carat weight but the stones really shine. There is no ball for the safety closure. There is an extension which actually makes it a touch too big. When hanging my arm down, the bracelet flips on its side. The closure is sooo tiny, less than 2.5mm. It’s tricky to do consistently and feels dainty and fragile. There is a tiny dent in the metal which I’m guessing is the “metal damage” the authenticators reported. So I’d have to add a ball for safety, shorten it, and possibly think of a different closure.
I like that the 2.5 ctw is lower profile for a bracelet and it’s a touch shorter so it fits better. However, I prefer the platinum of the 1.5ctw bracelet vs the white gold and the detailed engraving is very lovely imo.
I honestly like both but they both need work before I feel comfortable wearing them. I’d consider both of them pretty good “deals” based on prices of other similar bracelets but the added expense to make them more secure/wearable possibly negates that.
To complicated matters, I’m still thinking about a 6k one. I’m tempted to buy it also and return if necessary as it feels like it’s going to stick in my brain. Though my husband would likely roll his eyes so hard he’d fall over! Plus I’d have to shorten it too.
So…. any thoughts on the age of either bracelet? And also just any thoughts in general? I know it’s up to me, I think I’m stumped as both are nearly perfect but each need some tlc. I would appreciate any input from the experts!
