I’m considering purchasing this J SI2 and am only a bit weary of the cut. Any thoughts on these proportions? Thanks!

No no please dont buy this stone. The proportions are not good, and a knot is a dealbreaker for most folks. Gia XXX is a bare minimum of what is needed to ensure a good performing stone, and even that is overly broad. Check out the education section of PS where it shows recommended proportions for round brilliant stones. Or let us know your budget and desired specs so we can help :)

Thanks!! I was thinking the higher pavilion angle may help out a bit. The knot also had me wondering. This is priced at $30k and was trying to stay around there but in the 3 carat range.

I’ll check the education section as well.

If you (or the wearer) is ok with lower colors, then I would buy this one with zero hesitation. Super ideal cut, best of the best.

A tad over budget, but J instead of K color.

Hello and welcome to PriceScope, nuke_squad!
This 3.035 K VS2 is gorgeous...Will definitely blow the doors off of the 3.02 J SI1 with the 41.4/35.5/58 combo and look brighter and whiter due to the sheer amount of light return and optical performance!
Great recommendation, lovedogs!

Thanks for the help here! I hadn’t really looked at anything AGS was only looking at GIA but realizing that may be a flawed strategy? Hard to make a blanket statement that one lab will generally have ‘better’ stones than the other ?

AGS0 (their highest cut grade) has stricter criteria than GIA Excellent, so it's easier to find a great diamond among AGS0 stones. With GIA Excellent, you'll have to weed through a lot more to get a good one. The super ideal cut vendors like Whiteflash have even stricter specs than AGS for their diamonds.

If your question is figuring out WHY they gave it a VG, this might be useful.
