Hi Everyone,
Need some advice…I have a .70 diamond solitaire necklace on an 18 inch chain. The diamond is fixed in a 4 prong setting. I feel I could get more wear out of the necklace if I could wear it at a shorter length as well. My jeweler suggested a jump ring? Thoughts? Will it be lopsided since it’s fixed diamond setting or should I just shorten the chain all together to maybe 17 inches? What chain length is your fixed diamond solitaire necklace? Any adjustable chain ideas? I do think I want to keep the diamond fixed rather than a bale.

Mine has a jump ring at 16 and 18 inches but tbh, because the diamond is 0.39ct in a thin bezel and not enough weight, it frequently goes lopsided.

If you know that you like it a specific length I would get it fixed at that length!

At the moment, I like it at 16 inches but find that the diamond spins around my neck due to the weight of the extra 2” chain, so I’ve had to tie knots in the chain (at the back) to get it fixed at that length

Thank you I’m starting to think maybe one length is best. I’m concerned if they put a jump ring in at 17 inches on an 18 inch necklace then towards the bottom of the chain that connects the ear of the setting where the diamond is may lay more “V” shaped on one side and the other side of the chain will be more “U” shaped because the diamond is fixed. Do you have a picture of your necklace at 16 inch length?

For me, the issue isn’t that one part of the chain is more U or V like, it’s that the diamond moves to one side frequently so I have to adjust it through the day. I don’t mind it too much but it’s something to consider, especially when stacking with other necklaces

I prefer a setting that I can pass through a chain so that I could wear it in different lengths to suit the outfit.

I have a 16in chain with a 2in extender for this purpose.

A pendant that is fixed to a chain can have an extender added to it. However, the clasp and extender would be lopsided at the back if the pendant were to sit in the middle in the front, etc. etc...

I find the clasp always migrate to the front whatever I do or wear with it, so it is not an issue for me.

DK :))

my fixed pendants always migrate to one side or the other. The ones made as slides do not, so I prefer the slides. I don't have any with a bale, so I can't speak to that.

Thank you this helps. Maybe another issue I have is how the ears on this necklace sit and finding the right length.

Hmm, is that happening because the chain is twisted? I would have thought that the connecting jump ring between the ear and the chain is flexible enough to let it sit flat

something definitely looks off on the way it is sitting. Can you take a closer shot of the stone and the how it connects to the chain?

Thank you everyone for advice!! I shortened my necklace at a fixed length and love it. It lays much better now. Here is a picture of it shortened (bottom necklace) layered with my rose gold dbty.
