Dear Pricescopers, looks like I am at the point not to be only plotting my upgrade, but actually being able to pull the trigger. Now I would love to ask for your help with it.

I am looking for a 2ct +, J, eye clean diamond. I am open to emerald cuts. Alternative could be elongated symmetrical old cuts such a oval, marquise or moval. Of course, I would be also open to a old cut emerald cut but they are rare animals. I love big flashy facets, hence the choice.

Also in the mix I already have a couple old European cut and mrb rings, so this time is fancy shape

As no numbers can help with fancy shapes, I would love to hear your opinions and suggestions.

Some of my current contenders:

Like this one for a certain old cutting style, but likely it will show some serious light leakage

This one seem to be nice, do not see that many mushy areas, do I?

This one is a contender because of G. I am a bit scared that tint will bother me in a J colored step cut, but I am jot happy about the inclusions that might be actually not eye clean

This one would tick my box for a super high color (which was something I was really dreaming of since a while - I wanted to have an icy white diamond, as mine are typically in the range of H and below to allow for best balance of specs), but I am somewhat unsure regarding the cut and not very happy about med Fluor in the high color (I have no problems with Fluor in I-J, as long as it has no negative effect on the diamond, but I would rather have a D-E-F diamond with none to faint Fluor)

I would love to hear the pros chime in and review my contenders or suggest better options.

Also, I have a question - where can I find old cut diamonds in fancy shapes?

Thank you

Oh, regarding color - I meant to say J or better. In fact, I am a bit hesitant about J in a step cut. Hence the higher color contender we find, the better. :cool2:

I like the cut of the G, but those inclusions kill it for me. I want to love that D, but the cut is putting me off. As for the J's, I just can't do a J in a step cut.

How color sensitive are you? I think that in an emerald cut anything under an H is going to have a tint...the other cuts you mentioned would mask color better.

In OECs I am can see color but it does not bother me all the way down to J. I never had a step cut, so it is a brand new game for me

Just as a point of reference, I have a K colored 2 ct OEC and I love it, it looks very white and it's VS1 and I see no inclusions. When shopping for an EC I found a beautifully cut 2 ct EC (not vintage) and it was an I and a VVS1. I purchased it with a return option and when I saw it I decided it was too warm. So I ended up with a 2 ct. G VVS1 EC. I'm only posting this because I love my K OEC and see little tint, but the I color EC stood out to me. If tint bothers you, I'd stay at H or above for an EC.

This is exactly what I was thinking! I don’t have an OEC yet but I would go J/K for the right OEC but I like colorless in my EC’s

Totally with you on that ladies, I am very unsure about J in a step cut. The Js were more or less the hope to stick more closely to the budget.

I would be super open for more suggestions of good stones. Emerald cuts, antique cuts... Where can I find fancy antique cuts? I looked high and low, but they seem to be rare

@Dizzie how do you plan to set the stone?

I am not quite decided on the details of the setting yet. This might end up being my next request to this lovely community

What about this one?

I think this is it in a ring...

I was hoping to do something art deco style like inspirations below1_53_LVS1_NLR14_6_22_A_org_z.jpg

What about an auction piece? Like this gorgeous piece that just sold...

I am a bit cautious with auctions houses, as I am overseas and cannot view the piece and auctions are final sale. Besides many auction houses notoriously overgrade.

However whoever got this beauty was lucky and price (incl. Buyers premium) is super sweet
