I''m a bridesmaid in an October wedding, and the bride has asked that we choose our own dresses. Her only requests are that they''re apple red and floor length. I''d like something that doesn''t scream "bridesmaid" and is fairly rewearable, while being appropriate. (I don''t think that the slinky, sparkly, floor length red dress I already own is at all appropriate.) I''d also like something under $200, but preferably closer to $100. Any ideas? I''m not quite sure where to start.

TIA!

$139?

Love that dress, starset!

Here is another: avail. in red (the belt doesn''t change color when you choose a swatch), under $150.

is a little sparkle ok? not sure if it's "apple red" but i thinks its gorgeous! very elegant and i think very re-wearable! $150

Blenheim,

I have no other suggestions for you other than a bridal shop like David''s (although, would you get the dress in time if you ordered it?). I was just in Macy''s, Ann Taylor, Express, The Limited, and Talbots today looking for a BM dress for my sister for my wedding. There weren''t any solid color dresses except for black in any of these stores. Your friend would like all of the bridesmaids to wear apple red, right? That seems like such a hard color to match -- one person''s candy apple red may not be another''s. Are you going shopping together?

This one''s pretty, and it''s in budget at $118.

Sorry that I just disappeared -- I was having computer problems.

Thanks so much for all of the ideas! I really like a lot of them. Zoebarlett, I tried looking at a lot of those websites before asking here and came to the same conclusion regarding color. Unfortunately, the bridesmaids are really spread out throughout the country so we can''t go shopping together. My plan was to ask here and then just go to a bridal store if the ladies here couldn''t find anything.

GingerBcookie, do you have a link for that dress? I love it. I''m also not sure if it''s "apple red", but would like to forward the link to the bride and ask her.

EBree, do you have a link for the second dress? When I click it, it gives me the first one that you posted. It''s pretty, and it could fit. I''m normally an 8, so I need to look at Nicole Miller''s size chart. Do you happen to know if they run large or small?

I''m going to forward the links to the bride and ask her what comes closest to the color she''s thinking of. Again, thanks so much!

Blennie, if you come down to Chicago this Sunday I have a red dress I wore one time that might fit the bill...it''s either an 8 or a ten and similarly styled as the one Ephemery posted. I don''t know if it''s the correct shade of red, though...but you can have it for free if it will work for ya! If I recall, you''re long waisted and tall like me so I bet it would fit you well. I''ll bring it to the gem show Sunday for your viewing pleasure if you decide to go.

linky to the first dress i posted

here's one from nordies for $97 that's kinda nice. the color may be more "apple-y" and the price isn't too bad.

Monnie, what a wonderful offer! That''s so nice of you, and you remembered correctly about my height. Unfortunately, we decided last night to call off the trip. The Snowballing Bathroom Renovation From Hell is taking enough time and money that we feel we shouldn''t spend a whole day away from here, plus the money on gas, doggie day care, gem show tickets, etc.

Ginger, thanks for the link! And do you have a link for the second dress? I went to Nordies online and searched red dresses by price, and couldn''t find it. I''m feeling really computer illiterate today.

this one is kinda cute...not quite floor length on the model, and since you''re tall, i''d worry if this would be floor length on you.

$121 link

In my initial online search, I kept seeing knee length dresses like this and cursing them for being too short. I just love it. Thank you!! I''m going to send this link, and some of the others, to the bride and ask if they''re "apple red".

Wow, GingerBCookie, you''ve posted some really lovely dresses! I''m totally digging the BCBG with the keyhole neckline for myself, though I agree with you about the awkward length-- I would chop that bad boy off at the knee to make a cocktail dress... of course, that doesn''t help Blenheim.

Blenheim, I can''t imagine a bride just telling folks to get an "apple red" dress and thinking that all the dresses are going to come back the same color! Some people are going to get what is considered "apple red" in a textile world (which is the one on the David''s Bridal dress Starset linked to-- medium color depth/not too dark, but with a cool blue undertone rather than warm yellow undertone), and others are going to grab a red delicious apple and match that (which obviously is a darker crimson color that has warm undertones). Perhaps the bride can buy a swatch of the color she wants everyone to wear, and can cut and send swatches to the BM scattered across the country?

Fleur-de-lis, the original plan was for each of us to choose one out of several patterns and then for the bride''s mom to sew all of the dresses out of the same fabric. Unfortunately, the bride''s sister has been very sick for months, and has spent the last couple of weeks in the ICU, so of course that''s her family''s priority right now. Making it even harder, the sister has a newborn that the bride''s trying to take care of for her. Her heart''s definitely in the right place, and I don''t want to ask her to find and send swatches on top of everything else she''s been doing. I''m hoping that identifying the right shade in the email I sent her (or at least the right undertones - I think that''s the part that''s been concerning me) can be pretty quick and easy for her.

That one dress looks like it would be too short on me (I''m 5''10"), but you''re right, it would be great chopped at the knee!

no problem...that was fun! red''s my fave color and i loooove shopping for dresses...it''s the accessories that get me going

(obviously from my other post begging for ppl to help me accesorize)

fleur - i really like the top of the bcbg too...which i why posted it desite the weird length. chopping it to tea length is a great idea!

The bride really likes the brighter red dresses that I sent her. After talking with her, I narrowed it down to the first halter dress and the Niki Livas dress. I''m pretty sure that the Niki Livas one would be flattering on me, but I feel like I would need to see the halter one on to really know. Since I''m ordering online, I''m just going to go with the Niki Livas. I''m already excited to wear it.

Glad to hear the bride liked one of the options... I can''t imagine how hard it must be to plan a wedding for one daughter while another is in the ICU, but buying as opposed to making formal gowns seems like a wise choice.
