I need help finding a sapphire. I bought this setting and now need a stone. I am thinking 2 carats, would prefer cushion but I think the setting demands a round stone. Any help is appreciated!

Setting wants a round stone. What is the mm size the setting can take? Buy by the mm size to fit the setting.

Sapphire comes in rainbow colours. What colour do you want?
Heated ok?
Budget?

Heated is ok. I was thinking darker sapphire but after reading on this site I am now leaning towards a med blue stone. Not sure on budget but willing to pay for a stone that is beautiful!
I was looking at stones on the Real Sapphire Company but after reading some threads now not so sure. I would love to match my sapphire earrings if possible.

Hi...pretty setting and a colored stone will look great in it!

I assume you are looking for a blue saphhire?

The reason that @chrono asked about what mm sized stone the setting will hold is because unlike diamonds, sizes can vary quite a bit for same shape/carat wt. So you need to shop using dimensions over weight. Any experienced jeweler can probably give you a size range for the setting.

Thank you. I actually am going to the jewelers this afternoon and will ask!

Another consideration that many forget is the depth. Diamonds are less deep than CS so make sure to check the sapphire will not be too deep for the setting.

ok, so the jeweler said they could not tell me the size of stone needed, but were happy to keep it to determine and order a stone for me!

So, the inside of this ring is stamped 14K and 1.33. I assume the 1.33 is the measure of the side stones?

Sorry, however, that is not a good/competent jeweller if they cannot tell you what stone size would fit in that setting, IMHO!

I would be inclined to find a more competent jeweller/bench to seek further advice.

As already mentioned by the others, the depth as well as the diameter that the setting can accommodate are vital information.

For the same weight, CSs can vary hugely in final cut size dimensions. The normal advice for CS is for the stone to be purchased first, then find a setting that fits, not the other way round. If nothing fits, then go down the route of custom setting.

DK :))

Where did you buy the setting from? I would have thought the seller will include dimensions and shape of the stone that would fit. Might be faster to check with the seller.

Is the setting the avatar? Jeweler sounds odd that he can’t tell you but can order one.

Sadly, the jeweler we bought it from left the business.

Of course he would be happy to keep it and order a stone for you..but wouldn't ordering a stone for you mean he would have to KNOW the size of the stone to order.. [see what I did there?]. When you purchased the setting did it come with any mm information? get a cheap caliber online and measure it if you plan on ordering the stone yourself online. Otherwise I would advise finding a different jeweler to help you. A small ruler with MM measurements may help determine this as well.

but wouldn't ordering a stone for you mean he would have to KNOW the size of the stone to order

This is the part that baffles me about the jeweller. It doesn't sound right and I would steer away from this jeweller.

Find out the size you need from someone else.

There is no reason a good jeweler shouldn’t be able to tell you. Madness

Once you do, i wanted to share this sapphire in case it might fit - but confirm with someone first…it’s stunning!

Here is the listing
