Hi, I'm looking for round blue sapphire 8.4-87 mm to fit in my old CVB Olivia setting. Can anyone help? Thank you!!

well of COURSE we can help....maybe! but thats going to be a pretty large sapphire.

So a couple of things;
How much do you want to spend?
Whats your line in the sand for treatments and color?
I tell people to throw out the thought of no inclusions since silk can actually enhance the look of the stone.

Also, if blue didn't work out being you're wanting a very specific size and shape, are you open to other colors?

How much do you want to spend? Ummmm...like $1000 or under?:lol::lol:
Whats your line in the sand for treatments and color? Don't care about heat. color can range from royal to light blue- aquamarine color

I could be. Also open to aquamarines in that size if it's a really great cut?

Well.... 1000 is a little low considering you want a round. the probmem with sapphires is that they're not cheap anymore...lol Round stones always have a bit more premium too.

I will throw it out there to contact Dana at Mastercut gems. see what he has because he's got a lot of stuff. He may be able to get something for you but 1K will be a bit hard to do. you might have to come up a bit on that for a sapphire.

African gemstones seems to have the size but not exactly the price...
Aqua may be more doable, though you probably wont get the super saturated stuff at that price/size.

I'd look tonight but I've had a couple of glasses of vino... I'm near ready to dance on a table so no telling what I may send you.....:lol-2: I will look in the a.m. to see what else is out there.

The problem you will have is that decent cut nice coloured sapphires that are just over 2+ carats and round are going to be around 7mms. How do I know? Because I owned one that was just over 2 carats and it was 7.20. So at 8.40 to 8.50 you are looking for something that is over 3+ carats, probably closer to 4 carats, and going to cost you many many thousands of dollars, unless you want something like a Montana sapphire and even they, in that size and a decent colour, probably are not going to be that cheap.

Getting something like a round Aqua on a budget or something else blue like a zircon or a topaz custom cut are other affordable options. Then there are a list of gems that are other colours, that could also be either custom cut or that are cheaper and easier to find in a round shape.

Hi, soxfan -- perhaps ask Caysie what range in depth the head can accommodate? (I'm thinking it's not outside the realm of possibility that a sapphire of that diameter could be too deep for your Olivia's head.)

I will agree with arkie on this. I did some looking and for 1K, without much luck. Still looking around though.

Other gems which may not be as expensive, blue topaz. they can be very pretty and bang for buck inexpensive even for precision cut. Mastercut gems had a honker on their website, it may be worth asking if they have anything smaller.

The biggest issue might be depth, colored stones being cut for color.

case in point https://www.litnon.com/index.php?page=viewgem&id=11236 which could fit by the diameter but may have issues depth wise.

Do you all think I might have luck at the gem show?

Also, what is diffusion? Is that a no-no?

Ok, I might just fire sale my olivia then. It seems that finding a stone to fit will not be easy!!
