hi there-

well with one dress already purchased and only 5 months till the day i say "i do" - i''ve started to regret my dress choice.... while my current dress is beautiful and perfect for our beach wedding.. it wasn''t THE DRESS that i loved from the start. the problem is that THE DRESS is $1600 and waaaayyyyy out of budget.

but now THE DRESS is all i can think about. i''ve searched high and low - ebay everyday to find a new, used, i don''t care ...i just want to find THE DRESS. a bridal shop here carries it, but the price tag still scares me.... i know i can sell my current dress for what i paid... but was hoping you girls had some secret special sites i''ve never heard about for cheaper wedding dresses.

THE DRESS is Nicole Miller Metal Taffeta HG0013

I''m sorry you are not happy with your dress vizsla. I know how it is to second guess the dress; I now have two dresses and the first one leaves me a constant reminder of "what was I thinking????"

Hopefully someone else will chime in on where to find the Nic Miller dress for less $. I have forbidden myself to look at other dresses to possibly prevent third dress sydrome! I do want to add, though, that I REALLY think your current dress is pretty darn beautiful and perfect for a beach wedding

I''m no help - I Luuvve the Nicole Miller and was oogling that fabric while dress shopping myself.

Would you go into debt if you bought the dress? Have you actually tried it on? Might help put you firmly on one track or the other. If something about it just doesn''t look quite right on you, problem solved. If you look absolutely divine, maybe that would help motivate some budget shenanigans.

I think your present dress is prettier for a beach wedding. Sure, the NM dress model is shown frollicking on a beach and all while the model wearing YOUR dress looks......odd.........but, and this is probably just me, put that NM dress on another woman at a beach wedding and I personally think it seems TOO formal. I like the shape and lines of the NM but I actually do not like the look of the wrinkly-esque taffeta.

However, I peeked at the craigslist add and the seller mentioned getting it for $880.......that''s good news if you decide to hunt down a great price! Maybe you can even contact that seller and ask them how they bought it so cheap?

Have you tried this dress on to be sure it looks good on you (not just the model)?

If you can''t find this actual dress in your price range anywhere, could you buy similar fabric and have it made for you by a local dress maker? You''d have to inquire about how much that would cost, but it may be less (since with Nicole Miller you are partially paying for the designer name).

Good luck with it- if you keep up your diligent search, hopefully you''ll find one that goes on sale eventually (I just hope its in time for your wedding!)

i actually love your current dress more than THE DRESS. yours is PERFECT for your beach wedding and i''m sure you look gorgeous in it. as the big day approaches you find yourself 2nd guessing everything. relax, enjoy, and if you are really sure you can''t live without THE DRESS, then get it...you''ll be happier.

thank you for your encouragement.

just for a little fyi.... yes, i have tried THE DRESS on .. and am planning on trying it on again with a friend who has seen current dress and every other dress i''ve tried on. she''s extremely honest (without being mean) and will tell me if i''m imagining that i look much more fab in THE DRESS than my current dress.

the fact that THE DRESS is wrinkly looking is actually one of the reasons i heart it so much... it looks and feels like your fav. t-shirt (and i should qualify this statement by saying i''m a very "fav. t-shirt" kinda gal).

i also worry that current dress while beautiful and a nicole miller as well.. looks more like a nightgown than a wedding dress. i also worry that i will regret not getting a more traditional "wedding dress" in the long run.

it''s just that THE DRESS was the very first dress i fell in love with... i should have trusted my instincts...

the craigslist dress is close but a lot slimmer in the legs than THE DRESS.. in fact.. i don''t know how she would walk in that dress ;) and i must not be searching craigslist right.. because i swear i''ve put that heading into the search and came up with zilch... clearly i''m doing something wrong... maybe this weekend i''ll sneak some pics of me in both dresses and you guys can help me decide.....

I also like the current dress better for a beach wedding. Taffeta might seem like a good idea but for the beach, I''m not so sure. If she wasn''t frolicking on the beach would you have liked that one as much or are you second guessing yourself because this is more formal and you''re seeing the photos of it on the beach? Ultimately it''s your wedding and you should be happy with your dress but I think the one you have is perfect for a beach wedding! Just gorgeous.

i also had a moment of ''the dress'' after i''d found something else more practical and pretty. but really what i wanted in THE DRESS wasn''t practical for our wedding on the beach/lawn in hawaii. so i stuck with what i had and i don''t really regret it because the dress i wanted just so wouldn''t have worked and it was $2500 whereas the one i got was $1000.

one comment about the whole beach/lawn thing, weather is unpredictable. it was blazing hot on our day and i was SO GLAD i hadn''t ended up with ''the dress'' because i think it would have just melted off me...what i had worked way better for the day and the heat. you''d be amazed at how hot some of those dresses can get...and i would have been all freaked out about getting the $2500 dress dirty and not being able to really enjoy the whole experience. and remember you have to wear it for like 6ish hours! i had grass stains all on the bottom of my dress (wore flip flops for reception) that did not come off after the special dress cleaning and packaging, but i like them because they remind me of the memories of that day. but on the $2500 dress i might not have liked them so much hehee.

Yes, I''m wondering if seeing the photos of it on the beach betray what it would really be like to wear that thing at a real beach wedding... It is beautiful, but so is the one you have, IMO!

i should confess... this is not the only freak out i''m having... i''m starting to doubt a lot of my decisions... ugh! and i''m such a decisive person ... so it''s really reeeeeaaalllly bugging me that i''m second guessing myself.. see the obsessive pattern i''ve put myself in ;) i''m obsessing about my decisions and then obsessing that i''m obsessing about obsessing.. ugh!

i do love current dress and we got it for a steal... and it''s beautiful and lightweight and airy ... but i can''t get out of my head something my sister said

"even if it rains and no one is having fun and the cake doesn''t show up and the flowers die.. at least you''ll feel beautiful and happy in your dress (aka THE DRESS - she''s the only one i''ve confessed to that i''m having second thoughts)"

.. i know.. it''s a lot of pressure to put on a dress.. so i think i have to try them both on again at the same time and see... i never had one of those "this is the ONE" moments with current dress so i guess if i don''t get that with THE DRESS than i''ll know...

plus.. the material for THE DRESS is extremely lightweight.. think tissue taffeta.. with just the slightest of crinolin (sp?) underneath...

i really do appreciate all of you comments.. you are making me feel more secure in my current dress.. that''s for sure ;)

I couldn''t find your dress

But the Knot dress bio has two dresses that look similar, a Pronovias for about $800 and a Jessica Mcklintock for about $300 or less. I know you probably want the Nicole Miller one, but I thought I''d throw it out there. There''s also a shop in Boston/Newton called Betsey Jenney that carried loads of NM stuff and might be willing to deal if you just have to have that one.

the dress you have now. it is gorgeous. flattering. perfect for the setting. but, you have to feel great on your wedding day!

I''m gonna go out on a limb here and say it really sounds like you have your decision made if you ask me
2.gif

I say this because I know for myself when I ask people "Which is better, x or y?" and if they say "x", I feel this dissapoinment that they didnt'' choose "y", I know what I wanted to hear. It''s some sort of emotional check for me. If they had answered Y, I would have felt "see! I was right! Y IS the better dress!"
9.gif
Does that make sense?

In all honesty, you will be so beautiful no matter which dress you choose! But it sounds like there are now too many doubts about your current dress so go ahead, get that Nicole Miller because it is also so beautiful BUT more importantly, you consider it THE ONE. You even said you could sell you present dress easily (not important but perhaps if money is an issue it could be).

Tough one--both are really beautiful, but this is what i would do. Sell dress A. Buy dress B. Sell dress B after the wedding to make up for some of the cost.
Or, really trim from your budget somewhere--THE DRESS is not totally, outrageously expensive as far as bridal gowns go!

(i bought a wayyyy out of budget Melissa Sweet gown for my outdoor wedding, so i share your pain!)

i know.. i''m just sooo kicking myself for not following my gut....

and on another total sidenote.. i''m getting braces in about a week to straighten out some choppers that have bugged me (don''t worry.. he''s taking them off before the wedding) but now i''m thinking.... oh just keep current dress... i''ve got soooo many other "things" that have come up that adding not only the stress and the $$$ to change the dress now ... it''s like i''m asking for it....

i swore i wouldn''t be a bridezilla... then the dress thing.. then i called an emergency bridesmaid meeting on thursday to delegate some jobs.... oops...

but i still think i''m going to have to try it on again just to set my mind at ease (see how decisive i am ;)... but won''t that metal taffeta look sooooo good with the metal in my mouth? :P (oh yeah.. and i''m 30! braces at 30!!!!!)

Well, it looks like you can EAT more comfortably in the current dress, so that would make the choice for me!

Seriously, both are lovely. I really love your current dress...if I had known about it when I got married I would have probably gotten it (although I doubt it would have been a better deal than my $50 special, hee...) It''s really perfect for a beach wedding.

But as the others have said, it seems like you can''t get it out of your mind and you should do what makes you happy. You don''t want to look in the mirror the day of your wedding and feel sad you don''t have THE DRESS.

I empathize with the braces thing.......I had them for 3yrs until I was 30. I don''t know if you know this, but your ortho can remove them in most cases just for a short period of time. But I don''t know how far along you are in your process so that may not be advisable. Just wanted to throw that out there in case you were interested in that :) (of course, it''ll cost something)

Hey Girl, I totally know how you feel! The HG0013 was "the dress" for me too. I have since deceided to go with a different dress but I found a chick on ebay that has one brand new and she will sell it for $950. It is a size 12 and she said they had attached an antique pin to the zipper (sounds really pretty). I loved how this dress felt on as much as you did. How light it is and how it kinda sparkles in the light. And that is not to formal but not plain either, oh and did I mention slimming!!! :) God yeah I do love that dress. Anyway the girl is very nice and I will give you her info if you still want it. Good luck

Amanda

PS I love Viszlas we had them when I was growing up they are great dogs :)

This is the dress I have deceided on and I cant wait to get it :)

I like both dresses, Vizsla! I can see why you love THE DRESS, though, it''s gorgeous.

I had to chime in here even though I know this thread is older...I just had braces put on and I just turned 30, LOL! Try opting for the clear ceramic brackets on your front teeth if you can afford it, I was going to go all metal originally but found out we would be attending quite a lavish wedding in Colorado in a few months and I couldn''t handle the thought of being in pictures with a big metal grill, ha!

Archwired.com is a great website for adults with braces, they have message boards like this relating to anything you can think of as far as orthodontia, it''s great.

Hey-
I hope you score the ebay dress, but if not I ran across this and thought of you. It''s not the same dress, but it''s similar and comes in dark ivory for $620
