I need help, please! I just realized that on the timeline my DJ sent me, he has us doing our first dance, father/daughter and mother/son dances after the bridal party is introduced into the reception and BEFORE the meal. Is that typical? What are you all doing? I don''t know if I would rather do it after the meal or not! Help is greatly appreciated!

YES! I am doing it right after we cut the cake right after we are announced in...people have more of an attention span at the beginning and I want them to watch me! Only 2 days away...go look in my other thread Thing2!!!

I did my first dance right away. People were seated, we were introduced, we came in, did our first dance then sat for dinner, it was fun that way. Since had a a lively dance it got the party started and we got it out of the way immediately.

We did the mother/father dances after we ate.

First off, you should do whatever is comfortable. I would think that DJ''s would be flexible, so if you don''t want to do it before the meal, then don''t!

We''re coming in announced, doing our dance, doing father/daughter, mother/son, then opening up for food. I''ve seen it both ways, so do whatever you want!

We did ours pretty late in the night--well after dinner and cake (mmm cake). It worked for me because I changed into my rehearsal/reception/dancing dress right before it and had the wedding dress on for the first half of the reception.

I did our first dance before the meal, but saved the father/daughter dance and other formal dances for later. I wanted us to dance as soon as we walked in, but then I wanted to get to the meal ASAP. IMO, it's no fun as a guest to have to sit through several long and boring dances while you're still hungry, so that's why we didn't do all of them right away, just our bride/groom dance.

Okay, it looks like that''s normal to have the dances before the meal, then!

jstar-we''re having a cocktail hour with lots of apps so I don''t think people will be starving. Does that make it better to do all 3 before the meal, then?

Yes, we did this..and I think it worked out really well. Broke things up a bit...and we had some fruit and cheese that people snacked on while they were waiting for us to come up and do the dances..then we went to dinner.

i like the idea of doing everything at once before the meal, while you already have everyone''s attention, that way you don''t have to worry about getting everyone to stop eating/getting drinks/tallking for a 2nd time.

We did our first dance in between courses. Father/daughter and mother/son were after dinner, while cake was being served. We did not want to have our first dance right away--we wanted to have the anticipation.

The other thing is, by the time the reception begins people are usually hungry and want to eat real food instead of hors d'oeuvres! We didn't want to make them wait any longer.
