I am looking to do my own hydrangea centerpieces for my grandparent''s 60th wedding anniversary and have a specific questions as to an estimated number of blooms per arrangement I would need. I will either have to order these on-line to be shipped out or call a local florist since I will be flying into town for the event. The containers I have ar 7 inches high and 5.5 inches square. I am planning on only using white hydrangeas with no greens. ANY helpful hints would be SOO appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Sarah

I''d probably try and do a dry run at your house first so you can be sure you know what to do on the day of.

Good luck!

I wanted to use Hydrangeas for my wedding centerpieces in the begining so I did a mock up. I had a 5" cube vase and 3 stems looked fantastic. HOWEVER, they wilted completely in a grand total of 10 hours and I did this back, I don''t know, March maybe? So no heat problems as far as I could tell.

There ARE ways to make them take more water and keep more fresh but I just didn''t have the time nor patience for that in light of the fact I''m doing all the flowers myself.

REFRIGERATE. Add flower food to the water. Cut flowers at a nice angle. And if possible. Use floral oasis (wet foam) to keep the stems properly hydrated. Make sure you soak the foam for a LONG time in water that has the floral food in it.

I''m not sure how large the container is, but its the standard little vase that you can find anywhere with the "ruffled edge". Estimating, I would say it was something no more than 5" x 5"? I dont know. We used one large bloom per container. They were purchased from a local grocery store and we just snipped the ends at an angle and filled the vases up with water. I did my trail run using blooms from the plant my mom has in her backyard. I experimented with cutting the stems at an angle and smashing the ends... both worked equally well.

I know So Happy didnt have much luck with her trail run, but these were our DIY centerpieces for our August wedding in Virginia (Read: HOT and HUMID), granted we were inside. We set the room up Friday morning (before 11am) and had the reception Saturday night, this picture was taken somewhere towards the middle I believe, so at least 30 hours worth of life and then some. I had hydrangeas everywhere (cake, all our bouquets and bouts) and had no problems.

I would look into a local grocery store... it may be cheaper than a florist. I dont know how I feel about ordering flowers online.

NYC~ I am always so bummed when I see how pretty your centerpieces kept!!!!

YOURS look fantastic, tho!

We had them in our centerpieces (thought they weren''t DYI). My wedding was also in August and they STILL looked good at brunch the next day.
