Let me start by saying thanks for the wealth of great information I gathered from this site back when I was shopping for my wife''s engagement ring, and now as I''m looking for some sort of token to commemorate the birth of our first child (baby girl.)
Our due date is early September, and after initialing leaning towards a pink sapphire pendant, now I''m thinking maybe a ring. I''ve seen the Maternity Rings from The Facets Collection which are both nice and affordable (Favorite but would go for white gold.) But after looking around at more Facets items I came across this eternity ring which I admit I like a whole lot more (perhaps its the light pink color balance.) Unfortunately it''s a whopping $1816 for white gold, which stretches my budget.
Any opinions on the above, or maybe some alternatives/compromises I should consider?
Thank you!

I like both: the first all pink in WG and the second alternating pink in WG. The reason #2 costs more is due to the diamonds. I think she''ll be very pleased to receive either one. You are a wonderful hubby to think of such a gift.

HI:

How thoughtful! I would welcome either choice....

Just a quick point about finger size--most likely it will change post-partum (after delivery), so that is a consideration when ordering, as eternity rings cannot be sized.....

cheers--Sharon

That is super sweet! She will love either

I was about to say the exact same thing....

How lovely that you are trying to find a present for your wife to celebrate the birth of your daughter. If you told us your budget I''m sure we''d find something suitable

but there are a few questions- did you think she might want to stack it with her wedding set? or wear it as a right hand ring? does she like princess cuts? does she like pink? Is her wedding set white gold?
what about a diamond bangle from Whiteflash - which would be lovely and it is possible to get in white gold with pink sapphires and diamond combo for $1160 or all diamond for $999
Believe you me we''re all quite willing to help you come up with a fab gift for your wife who truly deserves it!

You did not say why you leaned away from a pendant - but I like your original idea. A three stone might be a nice idea for a family of three.

Blue Nile Pendant

I''d really do the pink sapphire pendant. I think getting the size right on an eternity ring might be a problem, and she might have strong preferences about a ring and whether it would be worn with her current rings. If the ring is meant to be a standalone ring, then I''d just get a right hand ring with a pink sapphire center stone. I''d have to try on eternity rings to see what would work with my existing rings.

How sweet are you! We are expecting our first child this fall and I want a ring similar like you posted. I will have the quote me for stones going 1/2 or 3/4 so it can be sized in the future. Also if I go with a channel set (haven''t decided) I will have them add milgrain (but I heart milgrain). I want one for every child and then stack them. Luckily my DH thinks a ''push'' present is normal

Maybe they could make the ring you like with stones going 1/2 way to say you some money?!?

What about an Etienne Perret sprinkle band in white & pink diamonds?

Yes this would be lovely too. I''m having trouble staying away from his site. I also like the pendant and bangle ideas. Mostly due to the sizing issue of eternity rings. Also I don''t like stones on the back of my fingers.

So 1/2 or 3/4 eternity gets my vote or the sprinkle band from EP!

Thanks so much for the replies and ideas. Let me try to answer some of your questions:

I''ll make it easy and say my absolute max budget is $2000.
I assumed she would wear it along with her wedding and engagement ring, and I would like to believe that is correct, but it is possible she wear it on the right hand.
Her engagement ring is a solitaire princess cut diamond in rhodium plated platinum, and wedding band is a simple white gold band. (The two have worn very differently, with the engagement ring still looking quite silvery, and the wedding ring definitely showing a yellowish gold color)
She does like pink, although idea was simply pink stones for a girl

You did not say why you leaned away from a pendant - but I like your original idea. A three stone might be a nice idea for a family of three.

The only reason I shied away from a pendant is that the last two jewelry pieces I bought were this choker and this cross.

Just a quick point about finger size--most likely it will change post-partum (after delivery), so that is a consideration when ordering, as eternity rings cannot be sized.....

A question regarding sizing...I''m glad that it was brought up. I have the measurements of both her wedding and engagement ring, and had assumed that an eternity ring in that size would fit shortly after the big day (after all the swelling goes away.) If it''s not always the case then I will definitely need to consider that. Can eternity rings be sized at all? (I''m thinking a max of 1/4 size)

Again thanks so much for the assistance and great ideas. I''ll write back as soon as I get a chance to go through them all!

Hello,

What a thoughtful husband you are! No doubt the jewelery at Facets is lovely, but they are rings & especially at this time physically (hormones, water retention etc) might not be a great time for that. I like the idea of a bracelet. Always fits.

There are many vendors out there that can get blank peices either from Adwar, Adjour, Overnightmountings etc that can make you a bracelet with both pink stones & white stones. The Whiteflash bangle is very well priced, & the shape is great for not twisting around (its oval). The pic I put up is from James Allen, priced at $2145. The pink stones are bezel set rounds & the princesses are bezel set as well so no prongs to get hooked on any baby things (blankets/sleepers) or baby herself. LOL Contact Jim for the best price available.

Good luck to you & your family!

sorry...I took a better look at the pic after it posted up. The princess stones look recessed with tiny prongs on them. Probably still ok since they are recessed & not likely to catch on fabric.

Eternity bands can''t be resized, as far as I understand. You could go with a half-eternity and 1) have more budget to get nicer stones (since there will be fewer of them), and 2) not worry about resizing problems. Even if your wife''s weight stabilizes after the pregranancy, there are still the effects of time to worry about down the road. Many people change ring size over time due to weight changes, arthritis, etc.

I bet fathers day this year had some new meaning to it! Congrats!

regardless I KNOW facets will make a 1/2 or 3/4 band (since a PSer has one though I can''t remember who) so I don''t think you should throw out the ring idea so quickly!

Wow what a fabulous budget- I love this bangle that Mara posted - 1.5 carats of beautiful diamonds from Whiteflash for $1585 simply because with the sheer number of diaper changes perhaps the bangle is a better choice. But whichever you choose I am sure she''ll love it. (the eternity you posted is only $16 over for platinum and it would look lovely with her princess cut- even rounds would look lovely- I paired my princess cut with rounds)

How thoughtful of you. I vote for a WF shared prong bangle too so you don''t have to deal with the ring sizing issue. And you could still go with the pink stones for a girl.

14k White Gold w/ Pink Sapphires - $1,160

Where do I start?
I still like the pendant idea. I guess my problem is finding the "right" stone (preferably +-1ct round pink (of course)). The Natural Sapphire Company has
one stone that fits the description (and my budget), while the only thing that comes close at AJS is over the budget at $2400 Maybe the NSC stone in something like this from Whiteflash? This option at Bluenile seems to be nice, albeit smaller than I was looking for.

On to rings...
The full eternity idea is out, due to sizing concerns. 1/2 or 3/4 is still a viable option. I have sent Facets an email (through their web site) inquiring about 1/2 and 3/4.
What about an Etienne Perret sprinkle band in white & pink diamonds?
Are these what you are referring to? Although not sapphire (September birthstone would be nice, but not crucial), they are very nice. Does anyone have one? I notice on the starlight bands site, the pictures show rings with various sized stones, but that isn''t an option with the designer tool. I''ll have to contact Etienne for the info...
I''m assuming these are sizable to some extent?
Other ring possibilities:
Elsa Peretti
Babybands
Natural Sapphire Co (mentioned above)
Although sizing may again be an issue.

Bracelet/bangle-
The WhiteFlash bangle is definitely an option. I like how they let you change the diamond/gemstone ratio. The only question I have is the size, since my wife''s hand is pretty small.

Thank you all so much for the info, and the husband comments which have way overinflated my ego! (I should print them and give them to my wife along with the gift...)

Let me know what facets quotes you since I believe that is the option we are going to go with.

I personally like this ring, and then when you have your next child you can get your wife a ring that will interlock with this one. I feel that stackable rings are very beautiful and practical. Bracelets often get caught on things and when your child gets slightly older you will most likely find, that like most children she likes to pull on necklaces. I love that there are husbands willing to do sweet things for their wife like what you are doing and spending the time to make sure the gift is perfect. so sweet!

Have you picked out any names more importantly????

Stonesrock- I was somewhat concerned that ring would not be easily sized, given the info above on eternity rings. It is nice though...do they interlock, or just unusually shaped?

We have indeed picked out a name, which won''t be revealed until the big day

So far no-one has been able to get it out of us.

I received a helpful reply from Etienne regarding his starlight bands, so they are definitely still in the running. (Have not heard back from The Facets Collection) I''m starting to think Etienne''s bands would be primarily for the right hand. The ''sprinkle'' effect is much less pronounced on thin sizes. For example, if I got a 4mm, I would not want to overshadow my wifes'' 2mm engagement ring and wedding band. Any thoughts on that?
Etienne said he would also work with pink sapphire, but recommended diamond for durability/longevity.

Well fair enough about not letting us in on the name of the new addition of your family, but when your beautiful baby girl arrives we want pictures and her name. Good luck with your new addition you beaming dad you!

As for sapphires they are very durable and I have never heard a complaint of longevity in my life. In fact I often purchase antique jewelry containing sapphires. I dont think you really need to worry about that so if you want the pink sapphires which i think is an adorable idea I believe you should stick with it and not switch to diamonds.

I dont know about sizing the ring and stuff like that. You would have to talk to them about it. But i did have an eternity ring and the jewelry store i purchased it from had discussed sizing it with me. Maybe you would have to talk with each place and see what they believe can and can not be done for you.

So when are you expecting your bundle of joy?

I know it''s probably too late for me, since I''m married to Mr. Cheapskate, but I think husbands like you are going extinct. Let''s see, what did I get for having all three of our children from my husband? Hmmmm????

Oh yes, more housework!!
