Hi everyone!

I hope I can get people with experience to help me out! My (pre-loved) engagement ring which I ADORE, is about size 6, eternity style micropave band in platinum. My ring finger is around a 4.5ish. I say ish, because my ring size is so variable!

Right now, I have a plastic coil sizer that makes my engagement ring fit my finger. Sometimes it’s loose and spins, and sometimes it tight and my ring leaves a mark! Which is why I mentioned my size being variable. I also haven’t had it during summer months, so I imagine even more varied than I think!

I would like to get my ring resized, because the coil doesn’t allow my wedding band to sit flush. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should size it? (.5 size too big, etc!)

The diamonds in the band will pop out resizing a lot smaller.
How far around do they go?
Suggest adding large speed bumps or humps to take up about a size or 1.5 sizes to reduce the extreme bending.

Thank you for your response! It’s an eternity. I only purchased it because it was an absolute steal and exactly what I was looking for, so I’ll take speed bumps/my band not sitting flush lol.

Do you think I’d be able to re size it down even one size? The diamonds on the band are set with a prong on each side, so 2 prongs per diamond

if it is a 'true' eternity band (diamonds so all the way around the band), then you can't resize it easily. Speed bumps is the best solution.

I have a similar band with teeny tiny pave from a mall jeweler. I had it sized down from a 7 to a 6.25 and that sucker lost so many stones over 3 months that the jeweler remade it from scratch in my size. (It was an everyday wear ring for several years after that and didn't lose a single stone!)

I think your options are sizing bumps or, realistically, to get a new shank made (maybe one with a sizing area so you can go a little bigger if necessary... Plenty of things increase your ring size, which is safer to resize than sizing down). Pick the size by buying a couple of similar diameter silver/cheap bands in quarter sizes in your range and just... Wear them! In hot, cold, humid, altitude, Thanksgiving, etc. Whatever you've found that causes size change. It's a big decision because of how difficult resizing delicate pave is, so you should invest commensurate resources and time into picking just the right size.

If your finger size fluctuates constantly and significantly, then it might be best that your ring is bigger than the usual size that you have been wearing in the past. Especially since you haven't gotten the opportunity to wear it during the summer months yet.
On the practical side of it: Due to health issues, i have to take a medication that causes swelling. The swelling comes and goes at random moments and there's no way to prevent it or put it under control. Due to this, my ring size fluctuates between 49 and 52 (I'm not kidding).
So my husband bought me a year ago an eternity ring, which was significantly bigger than my regular size (which had been 48.5 - 49 during my entire life until i started taking the above mentioned medication!). When I took it to my jeweler, he came up with a solution, which has been proven to be PERFECT after having been tried and tested for more than a year now!!!

This is so cool! What is it called, and how does it work? I’ve never seen something like this before.

My jeweler attached three white gold bars on the inside of the ring. As you can see, their middle section is attached to the ring, whereas the sides are left free. Those sides move up and down and can be adapted perfectly to the exact size of your finger at any moment. The big advantage of this method is that you don't have to settle for a specific size which might result in a ring that could be very big or very small at times, due to the fluctuation of your finger size.
It is an amazing method and I can't give you a specific term for it, because from what I understand it's not a known method in the industry. He just came up with it in order to help me with my problem (because he is a dear friend of mine and i'm grateful to him!).
I'm sharing it here with my PS friends, because I want them to resolve their own similar problems too!!
