Hello, can anyone help identify this cut? Is it vintage? Modern take on an old cut? It was listed as S2-i1 and color is listed as K-L. Looks a little lower than that to me but I’m no expert. I’ve attached a few pics next to my mined H and an E Lab. Thank you for your help!!

Edit - it does have a culet. The girdle is not faceted.

Faceting looks pretty. Looks like an late oec/early transitional cut to my eye.

The color looks like it’s S/T in pics. If you got it for a good price, it might be worth keeping it.

Thank you! It was about $5400 with tax. 2.12 carat. I thought it was a good price for a K-L. Not sure about an S-T.

I thought the inclusions might bother me but they don’t at all. It’s the color that has me second guessing

I was going to say O-P..... I don't think it's a K or L.

This is my GIA K old cut and it looks very white from the top and not a lot of tint from the side.

and this is an GIA L

this isn't certed but was estimated by DK as an O/P which looks much closer to yours

Yes, the O/P is much closer than the K or L photos. All 3 are beautiful tho!

I have a HRD Antwerp M color which likely a GIA O/P (stone in my avatar pic). My stone never looks as tinted as this 2 ct does in some of your first pics.

In some pics stone looks like almost a honey color. Do you see that irl or do the pics make the stone look warmer?

Here’s a quick comp for you if it’s an O/P color:

OP to ST was my guess too.

It has a terrible nail head though. See how the entire table is black in most photos? The central facets are angled wrong. Maybe in person it’s less noticeable?

The nail head appears when I hold my phone up to the stone. Otherwise it is visible at some angles but isn’t prominent. It doesn’t bother me or affect the sparkle. It’s really a beautiful stone. Soooo sparkly. If I had unlimited funds I’d keep it and enjoy her for the golden beauty she is. Sadly my gut knows it’s not what I was looking for. My inspiration rings below… I was hoping the white would stand out from the gold somewhat. This one blends in more than I’d like. Thank you all for confirming that this is not a K-L! I will keep that range, even N-M, in my search.

Now I need to return her before I get sentimentally attached! I can already feel it happening. That’s why I have that ugly lab with a cert date of my anniversary haha.

The 2nd photo, is a Béryl DK ring, not a diamond. IMG_0615.jpegIMG_0616.jpeg

Yeah. This is my concern. Tje color doesn't bother me, but the cut is problematic

Keep open to a GIA O/P. I have seen several with white face ups.

It's impossible to accurately assess the cut from pictures...but this one does give a clue...from the face up view, it does look pretty bad....nailhead was the term used...The side view shows us why ...that diamond is deeeeeeeeeeep

Yeah I have no issue with the color if price is fair and the hue is appealing (I’ve seen an OP that leaves green/brown and it was not appealing to me). And cut is nice of course

This one would look pretty with a bezel:

Ooh that is a nice white face! I’m not sure I want to commit to the girdle chips. I have some flexibility in budget (~ $10k) and time. Our 20th anniversary is in July. I appreciate you keeping me in mind if you see something good!

Does it have to be an OMC or would you consider an OEC?

I would consider an OMC as well. The first old cut I fell in love with is an OMC owned by PS’r newtojewels. I would consider selling my car to buy that diamond ;)

Aw, thank you! I know you'll find your diamond out there too!

Old european cut, cape color (word derived from the mixed race people in South Africa. Often part Indian, African and European)
