IMG_1155.JPG IMG_1154.JPG IMG_1148.JPG hello, my girlfriend just inherited this men's 14k gold ring with stones in it that I am curious to learn about. After doing my own research I think the center stone might be blue tourmaline (greener type) or an aquamarine or just a fake colored stones idk. I am most curious about the center stone but also very curious about these little shiny opal crystal looking gem pieces on the sides of the stone. I'm guessing maybe blue opal chips or something? Any info is very very much appreciated I would love to know what we have here. The ring fits perfect on my pinky but my girlfriend says a gaudy and feminine but I like it I just never would have saw myself wearing a pinky ring before this. I hope pics are good enough. She wasn't too close to her grandmother whom she inherited the ring and a couple other pieces from so we are just trying to determine if any of the pieces would be better or not being sold for "scrap/melt" value. The ring weighs over 10 grams but if the stones are the slightest bit special then that will be a pleasant surprise and I will keep it and wear it on occasions around family. Please take a look and like I said ANY info or guesses or opinions are very very much appreciated. I notice these pictures kinda suck so here in about 2 hours I will try to take a better pic when the sun comes up and I'm not in the dark

I'm pretty sure those are opals inlaid, with a center tourmaline and small diamonds. The colors are lovely! Congrats.

Thank you so much for the quick response. I am very pleased to hear that you think the center stone is tourmaline as well as opals on the side. I hope this is true. I love the way the stone looks, it almost looked fake so I was worried. I wonder if a stone like that is desirable or pricey or if it's a common center stone.

Wow! I like the asymmetrical design with the rows of diamonds at the top and bottom. It gives the ring a sense of movement that makes it more masculine. I think this ring is going to grow on you. You are very lucky to have such a unique piece. Please take some pictures on your hand if you can, and show us how the opals respond to different lights. Thanks, Grandma!

Any thoughts?

It looks substantial and well made, with good quality craftsmanship and fitting stones. I think it looks great on you. Tourmaline used to be a more common, less expensive precious stone, but that had changed, especially for unique types and certain varieties. That size and color of tourmaline is a beautiful blue green type. Though a common type of tourmsline. good quality, clean stones are always delightful and can get quite expensive. In fact, I chose some cabochons in a related deep, blue green for earrings and they were quite pricey. it looks well matched/suited for the ring. There are just not enough high quality stones for everyone on earth to have one, so I tend to appreciate how wonderful it is to own a treasure of nature .
Good quality and brilliant opal is fairly rare. The relationships between the colors and the geometry is lovey. There seems to be a language of shapes in your ring.
