This piece was one of many purchased recently in a large lot. I hadn't examined it too closely, writing it off as smoky quartz. But I was photographing it just now and realized it has a lot of orange and amber colors.

Thoughts as to what it is? Sterling setting, marked Hong Kong with a bell(?) hallmark.

Zircon? Sphene? Quartz? Or manufactured?

Nice photo. Did you photograph with a cell phone?

Sphene has lots of fire. Does your stone show lots of rainbow?

Citrine or smokey quartz. Not zircon, because the facets don't have that blurry look typical of zircon photos, nor sphene, because sphene would have more rainbow than diamond, and because sphene is soft and not used in commercially produced jewelry.

If it's not glass it may be a spessartite garnet.

Thanks, all. Yes, photographed with a Galaxy S9--but I've had years of practice :)
Not much rainbow. I'd thought garnet, too, but it's lacking the reddish hue I'd have expected.

I feel like it's citrine or quartz.
