Help me choose a wax model

The waxes are in - ERD is quick! I was surprised at how tiny the rings are - after seeing huge bulky CADs I was delighted to see two beautiful, delicate wax models sitting in a box. To say the differences are miniscule is a total understatement. It comes down to the shank shape - one is more "fluted", and the other is more egg-shaped. Which one do you like better? The navette-shaped cutouts are visible from the top down view for both, so that isn't an issue. In the fluted shape, the top down view is more tapered whereas the egg one is more thick. The egg-shaped one is truer to the original inspiration from SS. Remember that I will be doing engraving on the side view - so I'm thinking the egg shape will showcase it better. However, the fluted does have more of a taper.

Also - are waxes supposed to be tight? They do file it down right? It is a struggle to put it on, and when it's on it does look tight on my finger. Maybe i should size up to a 4.5? I'll ask ERD their opinion too.

Fluted shape on left, egg-shaped on right.

Fluted on bottom, egg on top. This is a bad photo as neither looks this bulky in real life.

I don't know. It's really hard to see any of the details from the pics. I just magnified them and my eyes are watering from staring at the screen so intently. Both are lovely. I THINK I may prefer the fluted, but I can't be certain.

The differences are so subtle. The fluted design is thinner and the entire cutout is visible from top down. The egg design looks thicker closer to the diamond and the cutouts, while visible, looks like they're falling down like a waterfall. It's the difference between concave (fluted) and convex (egg).

With a CZ...not sure if the forum rules allow a synethetic diamond photo? It's an 8 mm whereas my diamond is 7.4-7.5 mm.

Woops wasn't on macro mode...on closer inspection the cutouts are more visible in the fluted version.

They both look great! I like the profile of the fluted one a little better, but other than that the difference is really subtle.

Cropped shots...fluted is my choice for sure. Fluted was the one the ERD designer recommended. He said it made the cutouts more visible and was overall less bulky, and he was absolutely right.

Fluted ... all the way. The ring is going to be fab!!

It's really a matter of personal preference, as usual. :wink2: My personal preference is for the slightly more delicate, concave design. However, I like the way the convex design echoes the traditional belcher set, which I've also been drawn to lately. So for me it's almost, but not quite, a toss-up!

I didn't know ERD would do 2 different versions of the wax mold! I guess I could have done that! Oh well!

To your question though :D , I personally like the fluted version better. I like the profile a little better and I also think it is more delicate with the slightly thinner shank. I really think it will emphasize your diamond more. Either way, your ring is going to be so unique and beautiful! I really hope we get to see pictures!!!

Hands down fluted! Beautiful from every angle. Yes the wax molds fit tighter and do not reflect the finished size. Also, be very careful trying them on as they can easily break

Thanks everyone!!! Yay my ring will finally be made! Tweeter it kind of happened by fluke as I wasn't sure about the shape. Yes Chris emailed that the waxes will fit tighter.

I had to google belcher. Turns out I've never been drawn to the belcher style, not realizing it was called that.

That was great that they made you two waxes! My suggestion to them, though, is to please make these waxes in a color like green or blue because I could hardly see any details at all with the yellow against skin! Can't wait to see your ring!

That's a good point. Maybe I should have worn the funny white lab glove? Here's the wax pics they sent me. you can see the details here, I'm a crappy up close photographer.

Ahh, the macro shots did help! I think it is beautiful!

Love the fluted design! Can't wait to see the finished ring!

It's going to look amazing when it's done. I can't wait for pictures of this baby. It's quickly turning into one of my favorite settings we've seen on here.

Hands down the fluted one!

I am thinking .. I don't think I ever like concave designs ...

What do you dislike about them? I don't think it's actually concave but straight.

Fluted!! I honestly can't wait to see this ring completed..

I guess i stand alone - "I am the Eggman, I am the walrus - cococachu!"

Go with your gut!!!

Lol Motown mama...that sounds so familiar. I'll have to google that...ah the Beatles.

Thanks everyone. You've taken me this far so I need to post pics! Funny the iPhone takes good ones. Except for the dry hands...begging for a mani. Ok enough yucky hand shots. The winner is fluted...don't even know if that's a real word. Now the waiting game.
