Help me create my anniversary ring!

I have always wanted a three stone ring, my engagement ring is a halo solitaire, upon the anniversary I am finally ready to get the three stone ring ! I am super excited and need some help making decisions.
My ring size is between 5.5 and 5.75 I am debating between 2.2ct with 0.4ct or 0.5ct side stone or 1.76 ct with 0.4 or 0.5 side stone. I am worried that 2.2ct would look overwhelm ( haha is that even possible ?)

I am dreaming maybe I could get 1.76ct for three stone and 2ct + in the future as a solitaire ? Suggestions, opinions , please help me decide !

Watching this thread with interest as my ultimate goal is a 3 stone myself and currently looking at similar diamond sizes! I will say that personally I like larger side diamonds relative to the center stone, so I might be partial to the 1.76 with .4 or .5 sides.
