so, I am almost definitely decided in setting my pale amethyst in a three stone. I realised I don't like solitaires (which I was contemplating because it is easier) and I don't want another halo to compete with my e-ring.

the amethyst is 9mm, so I'm guessing that I don't want too big side stones, about 5mm will be a nice proportion? (I'm a size 6.5)

but I have a small budget to get this done with, and I'm hoping you guys can help me find a couple gorgeous stones for not very much. I prefer a yellower-type of green. my best bet at the moment looks to be a couple calibrated mali garnets from MC.

Okay, here's my dumb question - why can't you use those little two stones beside your amethyst in your picture?

Chrono, not dumb! I knew I should have mentioned it.. I'm saving those for the wedding (cluster earrings, I'm thinking)

what about prehnite? I think it has a nice glowy, rustic look. I forgot to mention previously that I think peridot is too saturated and green, and doesn't really match my skin tone..

I really like the two reserved stones with your amethyst - good colour combination and size balance.

Chrono, so you don't think 8, 9, 8mm is too big?

Niel, omg  where is the listing! I can't find it in his site!

The 2 yellowish stones next to the amethyst do not look to be anywhere near 8 mm, if the ammy is 9 mm in the picture. They look close to just a hair over 5 mm?

Aren't those pears?

SC
Its under the ANAGEE section

They are pears? Oh, they look like rounds from that angle.

No idea! Haha. I just assumed with the measurements and theone closest the the stone looks pointed.

SC don't leave us in suspense!

oh my! sorry for the confusion..

the PEARS (niel got that) are 5mm. but I was hoping to save them for my wedding..

I thought you had meant the prehnite rounds, which are 8mm! prehnite rounds nice with the ammy?

Too much contrast with the prehnite and the size proportion is overpowering. The prehnite are too silky/hazy with a checkerboard cut whilst the ammethyst is clear with a sparkly portuguese cut. 5 mm round chrysoberyls would be perfect. :cheeky:

but I can't find those :(sad

mint garnet - in my opinion yellow green Mali or Grossular - see no mint color!!!

And really expensive...

Could get round 5mm Chrysoberyl from my Sri Lanka vendor.... they are normally around 40-50 EUR per stone - brillant or round portugiese.

what do you guys think of this? too saturated, right? it'll oveeshadow the ammy..

deskjockey, those are great but far too expensive! .

I know you said they're reserved, but the color of those stones you already have are perfect. Can you show us a straight on shot of them on either side of your amethyst?

I think the peridots would look fantastic, actually. They're not too dark at all and the cuts would work nicely together.

Here's a quick shot of some amethysts and peridots of different tones that I have - the big emerald cut ammy (actually a wonky ametrine) is probably slightly paler than yours, and the oval peridot is a bit darker than the ones in your post, but it may help you get a visual of what they're like side by side. I love this colour combo :)

I think the peridots could work with the amethyst.

I am away at the moment, but will shoot these when I get home tonight!!!

I keep talking myself out of these peridots. I love the colors together, but I feel they don't let a single one shine, and the portugese cut should really be shown off to best advantage, especially since mine is a paler rose de france

is demantoid garnet too soft for a side stone? let's say, regular but not daily wear, and I'm semi-hard on my jewelry (not sure if this is right, since my sapphire slipped out its prongs just a couple weeks ago and it's only been 6 months..)

My initial guess is that a pair of 5 mm Namabian demantoids will still cost a lot of money, even if they are very light.
