I am getting rid of my old ugly sofa in our family room. We bought a new one about 5 years ago and both sofas are in our family room. Unfortunately our dog has claimed the old sofa as his for the past almost 6 years. So I am looking for a nice bolster bed for him for the family room. I need to be able to remove the cover to wash it and most importantly it has to have good support and not flatten out and lose its shape after a few months. I do have the Drs. Foster and Smith orthopedic bed (non bolster) for him in our bedroom and it is great. I am just looking for something that looks more like furniture to fit with the family room decor.

I have been reading reviews of all the beds on Drs. Foster and Smith and just can't seem to find the one. We have a 15-16 lb miniature schnauzer who is about 6 years old. Any help is appreciated :wavey:

I don't have a specific dog bed recommendation, but have you considered also using a sheepskin in the bed? They can be washed, although not often. We used to buy them for our old terrier. Any bed would instantly become "hers" if it had her sheepie in it. Of course, sometimes she just dragged the sheepskin around when she wanted a change of scenery, but it was nice to have and comfortable. We're considering buying another one for our chihuahuas although they hate to share anything. Might have to buy two.

Thanks Lyra. I looked at one online at LL Bean that I may consider. Also, by putting the sheepskin on the bed would mean I would not have to launder the bed itself. Thanks for the suggestion.

My mom got a couple of these for her dachshund (about 17 lbs.): http://www.walmart.com/ip/Majestic-Pet-Products-Cotton-Crate-Pet-Bed-Mat-with-Poly-Fiber-Fill-Cats-Dogs/12388137 She put one on a footstool that the dog liked to lay on before, but REALLY likes to lay on now that the mat is there, and put another on top of her duvet (dog sleeps in the big bed) and it seems to be keeping her bedding from getting so... furry.

She's also got a memory foam dog bed with a removable/washable cover that's from Woolrich. It's similar to this one: http://www.woolrichhome.com/category_detail.cfm?pid=708

Have you tried looking at TJMaxx or Marshalls?... I know mine have entire aisles of pet beds. Most are $20-30 and are of much better quality than what you'll find at Petco or Walmart. Costco actually has nice Kirkland brand beds by they might be too big for your dog.

They usually have a variety of colors in http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Kirkland-Sig...Aw/$T2eC16JHJIYE9qUcNbwUBQ(8Kg1r7g~~60_35.JPG... and the three cushions come up so the cover can be washed.

Orvis has wonderful bolster dog beds of many different sizes and shapes. We have several that we really like and more importantly that our dog really likes. What shape depends on how your dog likes to sleep. We have a Lab and they like to sleep on their sides with their legs straight out. Your dog may be more of a curler, but they have every shape for every kind of dog.

If you want your pooch to stay off the sofa, buy a memory foam bed. Those are definitely snuggle spots.

I have to check them online. I stopped at the store and the dog bed were too big.

I saw an orthopedic bolster bed on the Cabela site. It may be in the running.

I actually have 3 of these bolster pads for my dog, one in his crate, one in our office, and one I use if he has to be kenneled. I feel guilty getting rid of his favorite sofa so I guess I want to replace it with a miniature one for the family room. We have hardwood floors throughout so I want to make sure whatever bed I get him will keep him warm.

The one I saw at Cabela's is also memory foam with removable cover and I think the one from LLBean also has the memory foam. I also want to purchase from the store that will stand behind its product and replace it/ give me a refund if it does not stand up to its claim.

I am definitely going for a memory foam bed!

This one looks alot like the one I saw on the Cabela website and I will consider it as long as it comes in small.
