Hi there pricescope people, I have been lurking around here for awhile now and would like to ask your assistance in helping me find a good diamond. I will admit i do not know a lot about Diamonds, just what i have learned from here over the past couple months. Iam ready to ask the love of my life that big important question and i have found a setting that i think she would just love from whiteflash. Now my only problem is finding a nice quality diamond to put in it.

http://www.ritani.com/engagement-rings/double-french-set-diamond--v--engagement-ring-with-surprise-diamonds-in-18kt-white-gold/4560

I will admit money is tight for this as we just purchased our first home together and are on a strict budget. With that in mind what i would like to get her is something in around the 0.5crt range for size(can be smaller if need be), with the cut being the most important factor obviously(i want it to sparkle just as much as she does) and i would like it to be a close to colorless as possible, clarity can be lower but the diamond has to be a clean as possible and must be eye clean no matter what. I know my budget is small so please dont laugh to hard at me lol but I can only afford to spend roughly around $1k on the Diamond itself.

Do any of you think this is even possible for that price? If so could i possibly get some good picks from the people who know a lot more then i do when it comes to this technical stuff about diamonds? I would like to think i know what iam doing and what to look for but at the same time iam very much afraid of picking a bad stone vs price.

And thanks in advance to any of you who feel like helping a newbie out and at least pointing him in the right direction. Iam not doing this to be cheap/save money Iam going this route for buying her e-ring so i can get her as beautiful of a ring as possible that i can with my budget.

The first one you linked is a nice one. Just a a bit above my set budget but really nice and seems worth it.

The second one you link is just to much unfortunately lol i only have a budget ofabout 1k for the diamond so 2.5k is just not doablefor me :(

She did mention that for her the setting is the most important so as long as the diamond I get is not some ugly cut/clarity and discolored I think she will still llove it.

Lovely setting. Understanding that your budget is tight, would you consider perhaps going with a less expensive setting and putting the difference towards the stone? Then you can upgrade the setting down the road?

i think if you can swing the 1st one its worth it! its a hair over but looks great!

I think most PSers would advise you to spend a little more on the diamond and a bit less on the setting. Having said that, if you go with 14kt for the setting you would save about $200 that you could put towards the diamond. Perhaps then you could swing the one that's a little over budget.

Good luck and congratulations!

Thanks guys those are all valid points you have made. I do not think i would want to spend less and get a different setting though as I know the setting is really more important to her then the stone thats in it. Plus i was looking through her FB "likes" with her sister and this setting seems to fit the bill perfectly for what she likes style wise.

I totally agree on spending a bit more and getting a quality stone. I also do not mind if we upgraded it for her after X amount of years(maybe a future anniversary) I will be trying to get the setting in 14k to help fund the stone a bit more but from what i see on whiteflashes website they do not list that setting as being available in 14k?(i know ritani has it on theres in 14k)

Also i have been in talks to with a gentlemen named Martin from USA Certed Diamonds. Mainly because they seem to have great pricing(?) while doing some diamond searches here on pricescope. He is also local to me in Ontario, Canada and was very prompt to email me a list of 0.5crt round stones that fit around my budget/criteria there were a few that caught my eye on his list mainly because of the gradings. Maybe you guys could let me know what you think of them as well and also maybe if anyone has ever dealt with Martin at USA Certed to that would be awesome. All of these listed below fit my budget closely.

I'm not familiar with this vendor, but those prices look too good to be true if each is $1000 or less. I couldn't find one XXX/AGS 0 stone that was eye clean in a 0.45- 0.55 for that price.

The ones i listed are very close to my budget(very slightly higher). The AGS one in fact was actually the lower priced of the 3 and im wondering if that could be due to the "strong blue florescence"?

Martin did seem very up front and nice. He did even give me the email/contact info of a very recent customer that lives in Ottawa as well and the gentlemen told him he was very happy with the Diamond Martin got him and said for me to feel free to contact him myself if i wish to see how much he liked it/USA Certed.

I am a bit skeptical as well but mainly because I just plain do not know enough about these things to be able to make an educated guess like yourself. So if you guys seem worried/have never dealt with them also then that just adds to my concerns lol maybe it is to good to be true :(

*edit* just noticed your post about fortkitty. Is this a person here on PS? and also is that site like a diamonds classified for personal sales?(almost would give me as much concerns as USA certed who is here locally about 4hrs away from me)

Fortekitty's... Trusted long time Pricescope member with a keen eye for beautiful pieces...

Diamond bistro a website for selling like eBay with no fees...

Out of curiosity, despite being $125 over the 1000$ budget, What was wrong with the steal I posted from Wink? That was a really great deal on a super clean stone!

Nothing wrong with it at all ame. I actually really like it, I geuss Iam hesitant to buy so soon after just asking today for peoples opinions lol

I have almost a feeling of not wanting to dive right in and purchase something so soon when i just started looking. I just want to look some more and get as much information absorbed as possible. Its funny I cant wait to ask her but will take all the time in the world to reaserch and do everything i can first to get it all right, Im wierd like that lol.

So after seeing that beautiful one you linked for me it is helping me even more to know what a nice clean diamond can look like.( i really liked that HPD does a video like that as well)

I also really like that one that msop04 linked, just would really have to push hard to save some more for it. Maybe I should be looking at some other style of cuts like a cushion or oval somthing close to a round shape? I just know she said that she really dislikes the princess/sqaure cuts.

Well a cushion is a square cut, so Id avoid that. lol

I'd stick to a round, if you can. Best sparkle and best way to "guarantee" the best cut.

The only reason I mentioned that, or asked this, is bec that's one of his value selects, and tomorrow is the last day he has value selects anymore and its a great deal (and you normally do not get a "deal" in diamonds) on a VVS that is one step below a Crafted by Infinity (well out of budget) and almost .5ct, complete with photos, video, aset and idealscope images. Not trying to push you on the first stone, just thought it met your criteria quite well and was only a hair over budget! AND he has a good trade up policy for a later upgrade which you mentioned possibly doing. I don't know if Martin has a similar policy, though he gets equally less pull around here. Probably even less.

I am not sure what the conversion rate is right now, so Im not really sure if this stone really is just a hair over budget or not for you. But in USD it's like $125 over if you wire.

Also--make sure USA Certed has those stones in house if you go that route. Just reading his site makes me think he's still a dropshipper, bringing in those diamonds from the states, not someone that stocks these diamonds in house. Wink will almost certainly have this stone in house. That speeds the process up, AND allows you to ask a lot of questions he can answer because it's in his hands not to mention ship it immediately upon payment.

When I posted those yesterday I also was looking at other vendors we recommend around here, most were closer to the .40 mark for lower clarities. Still fine, and still all well cut.

Thank you so much for your input on this ame it really does mean a lot. I know I am totally new to all this so I really do appreciate all information that has been given to me by everyone. Maybe I should send a message off to wink on here and ask him about all the details of his shipping policy and anything else I should be aware of with being international.

On a side note does anyone know what I might have to deal with on customs for bringing in a loose diamond? I know there would be taxes and possibly some duties?

There almost certainly will be taxes and duties. I don't know how far across the border you are, but sometimes people will ship to a hotel or holding station in the states, drive over and stay the night and bring it back to try to "avoid that". Not probably entirely legal though. Wink or whoever you work with can probably explain how the taxes/duties work.

But if you want more info on that aspect or this stone, I'd drop him a line ASAP, because like I said I think those Value Selects go away after tomorrow, and since I posted it out in the open, you want to make sure someone else didn't snake it (that happens when some of us long time posters "pre vet" a stone, someone lurking will buy it out from under the intended buyer!) from you and get it at least considered for you.

We really do want to help you get the best for your budget. You get a lot of info thrown at you here, as my friends and family would say "a brain dump." It's overwhelming.

I just wish i had all my funds together soon enough but i dont think that will be possible to do in time with wink :(

I would also like to add that because I will most likely be going through whiteflash for the setting(direct from ritani wanted to charge more as well as add some "fulfillment fees???) I would like to possibly get everything from one vendor so have it arrive all set and ready. I have been talking with Liza from whiteflash who has been very helpful and she has sent me some links to some of there Diamonds that fit my budget closely. She also is able to save my money by ordering in the 14k version of the setting and by giving a 3% wire discount as well as a 5% wire/pricescope discount on the diamond if i bought that through them as well.

If i could get some info on whether you guys think any of these Diamonds are worth it or not?

*edit* sorry guys i know i must sound like im flip flopping back and forth and may not be ready to do this right now on the spot so soon. But your guidance and help(brain dumping lol) is awesome

Uh, if you contact Wink he might be able to work with you on this stone I posted, even if it takes you a month or two to pull it together. He's very reasonable. Now, if you need a year, well then you're on your own.

But contact him and see what he can do with you on that original stone. There are other Ritani dealers, btw, and other designers besides Ritani that can provide similar style settings.
