Help me find a setting! 4.45 Q-R OMC from Alex Parks

My husband promised me a 10 year upgrade and I finally found my forever stone (it’s been 12 years, lol)! It’s a little warmer than I was originally thinking but is also much bigger than I ever dreamed of so it’s a trade off I can hopefully live with! Alex assured me it faces up nicely and not yellow. I also was looking for an OEC but love OMC’s as well. This is technically an OMC. I love the rounded shape and it’s basically both!

So! I need ideas on how to set it! I love antique looking settings, and we are thinking about using 14k raw gold since it’s a perfect match (that’s what the metal is in the setting pictured, he just used it as a placeholder to post the stone).

I love solitaires and also halos! I don’t mind the setting it’s in either. I’m also fine not wearing a wedding band with it depending on the design. Help! Would love to see ideas and/or suggestions on places to look! Pics of my darling for inspiration! I’m so excited to see her in person once she gets set in whatever I chose!IMG_2711.jpegIMG_2711.jpeg

Here are my 2 5+ ct older cut stones. One is S/T and the other O/P. The haloed one is a 5.5 ct and looks bigger than the solitaire, which is 5.62 ct. I love them both!CCD667FD-9B1B-4930-BEA8-3AEEEBD74A01.png

Beautiful stone! Lovely faceting.

I'd spend some time thinking about what you want and what you'd wear. I used to love a halo, but as time has gone on, I prefer a more simple streamlined setting. What do you actually wear and what will you wear? It would look lovely no matter what you do with it, but I'd pick something that you will find practical to wear for daily life, because it's a big stone on it's own.

For me, personally, I would not halo that. I'd let it stand alone and you don't have to do a standard 6 prong mount (I don't love those myself), but there are a lot of things you could do that let the diamond be the star that it is!

If this was my stone, for everyday wear and easy to stack, and not feeling too fancy to actually wear it, but also being very clean to let the stone shine, I'd do this:

Or something from Sholdt. Clean, beautiful metal work.

Erika Winters does beautiful work, but $$$. It's delicate, but sturdy. CVB has some beautiful options too.

Could you have him make your setting? His prices are great

Congratulations on your new stone! I completely agree with @elizat. I had a pave halo setting for 10 years and I felt I had to be careful with it. I ended up resetting my round brilliant last year into a simple Erika Winters milgrained bezel solitaire. I am able to stack bands with it to change the look. The stone is now center stage.
Your diamond is so unique and beautiful and would be stunning in a simple 8 prong setting. I LOVE bezels and could see your stone set that way as well.

Is the second photo your reset or have you posted it elsewhere? I love EW's designs as well and would love to see!

I saw this in his insta and so happy it went to a PS’er!! Gorgeous stone!! I, too, would also recommend a solitaire type setting. I had my last OMB (now sold) reset into a halo setting 7 years ago and also grew tired of that look. I decided on a larger solitaire and really like that feel/vibe… also looking at a potential 3 stone for the next venture. I feel like sticking with the classics makes it difficult to get sick of as easily. Either way, you can’t go wrong- she is STUNNING! I also would be curious about his bench, if I buy from him in the future I would seriously consider his bench, it appears prices are great!

Congrats! Okay, this style be a little over the top, but it’s so stunning…

Erika has beautiful options for this stone. I'd love to have one of her pieces one day!

Oh. My. Goodness!!! I love the side profile and scrolly basket in one of them! They are GORGEOUS!

Thank you! That’s so pretty! I’ve actually had a few setting types/rings - a halo with pave band, solitaire with hidden halo and plain band, then a three stone with a center halo. I’m usually a solitaire girl for bigger stones, but live in an affluent area and it seems like all the ladies love the bling and halo. I’m thinking maybe a solitaire and then I can always get a cool wrap/bent band to wear with it when I’m feeling fancy???

She is gorgeous!

He’s amazing! Ive worked with him before and he was actually looking for stones for me/didn’t send this one as an option because it was warmer than I said, and the “wrong” cut, lol! So he let me jump on it when I messaged him because something just spoke to me about it. I’m super nervous because it was a pretty quick decision but I trust his judgement so much! His bench is good too! His prices are SUPER reasonable if he’s setting one of his stones.

Congratulations! What a beautiful diamond! I can't wait to see how you set it :kiss2:

Wowza, such a gorgeous diamond!! So glad you found your forever stone! Following along your journey to find it's forever home!

Gorgeous stone congrats! Alex Park really has had some amazing stones on his IG lately! I wouldn't halo it but that is just my personal preference. I really like the options that Kim N posted above. Can't wait to see your ring!

For a Big Boi like that I would probably err towards a refined but protective/sturdy mount like @elizat said. Sholdt would be amazing, I adore their fern finish.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about wearability of my rings. I know it’s hugely individual. How you wear your jewelry and comfort factor etc. I’ve been feeling annoyed by prongs lately which catch on my hair and clothing too often. And annoyed by sharper angles so the stone stands tall and catches when I reach into my pocket or whatever.

Anyway, just some thoughts!

Gorgeous stone! I agree with the others on a simple solitaire. That would be my choice. I'd probably do something with a split
shank for me because I have real estate.

I really like that idea! I’ll check out split shank solitaires!

Those are great points! I wasn’t thinking about a halo at all until I saw how pretty it was around it.

That's what I'm talkin' about @evergreen ! A big ole stone in a casual setting that you can easily where with jeans and a tee-shirt
but works just as well with a suit. That's perfection in my world!

A halo would be too fancy for my* lifestyle.

I think colored stone French cut halos flatter these colored stones best. I’d do red or black, but green would be nice too. Spice it up a little beyond the common “target” ring

Agreed - at this size the stone speaks for itself. I wear it to work, to garden (hey, it's insured, and it makes me happy), to everything. It feels luxe no matter what, but not ostentatious... just the stone, shining (& protected). :kiss2:

*Thud*

If you did that with your stone people around you would be having attacks of the vapours constantly. You'd never be able to get them to focus on any serious issue. Life would come to a standstill. Better not. :silenced:

What a gorgeous stone! I‘d go with an Erika Winters Margot setting. I can’t wait to see how you decide to set this beautiful stone.
