Help me, my dad's Alexandrite ring is from 1972, same day he bought my mom's wedding ring. We lived in California, Creative Crystals?

I'd show color change to blue/green but this site keeps kicking me out.

A very clean, large stone would point to a lab alexandrite. I would have a local jeweler take a look.

I'm sure it's lab made, but just curious who did it, made in the early 70s, the colors are amazing. The blue/green are subtle and beautiful, the purple flashes ruby red all over. My dad gave it to me when I was 14, I will never part with it.

I've looked a bit, guessing it's a Creative Crystals lab Alexandrite, my dad was a cabinet maker in North Cali in the early 70s, bought it the same day as my mom's wedding ring 1972. Just always been curious about the origin. It's a rock that everyone asks about, jewelers always give a weird side eye.

I'll just wear it on occasion and put it back in the box. I tried to research Creative Crystals more but there's very little info. Pretty sure that's where this is from, tbh I'll take this stone over anything from Sri Lanka or all that really awful lab stuff they call Alexandrite today.

90% sure its color change lab sapphire
It was fairly common in the 70s and I have owned some.

I'm 100% sure it is, just was wondering if anyone else had a Creative Crystals Alexandrite to compare, the colors are different.

Thanks Karl, my dad didn't pay much for it in 1972, but I've always enjoyed the color change and people asking about it. Will send a pic if I get a good blue/green. Wish I could find a similar one, never have.

we would love to see a hand shot
i love that your dad gave it to you rather than by bequest

Yes, in the 70s big gems were all the rage. Mostly lab sapphire that colour changes but not like natural and also lab spinel. I’ve got a huge lab Uranium Spinel ring, love it.
The modern lab Alexandrite is quite nice though its a bit more expensive than other lab created gemstones.
