My sister is wants to get herself some bling

She is not sure what to get but there are some requirements and I thought who better than the brains trust here to help me.

She has a small budget for the stone (around150USD)

She likes rose gold

Shas has very pale skin with a pinky tone

Stone doesn't have to be large .8 to 2ct depending on the type.

She bought a morganite but it basically blends into her skin.

I thought perhaps a lavender coloured stone? Maybe an amethyst? These seem to be reasonably cheap.

Any thoughts welcome

Amethyst is a great inexpensive stone! Citrine if she likes orange.

Does she only like natural? Synthetic gemstones are another option (but would be for a different sub forum).

Thanks @JackTrick I think she would like a natural stone although considering setting it with moissanite.

There are a number of shades of amethyst but I am not sure what works best on pale skin?

What colour is the setting going to be ?
I love amethyst
To me the look is quite different in white or yellow setting

i also love citrine

Very interested in what you end up with
good luck

What's the budget for the piece?

Gold or silver?

You can find beautiful 10-20ct semi precious gems for $150, but then, because of the size, you need to spend big bucks on the mount if you want gold.

If you want gold, it may make more sense to buy a smaller finer quality stone and mount it in a lighter weight setting, you can probably find some younger goldsmiths in your local college who could do it for a couple/few hundred dollars.

Anyway few options:
Rhodolite Garnet 0.50-2cts
Amethyst 3-10cts (more size for low quality)
Ametrine : 3-7cts, this is a personal favorite
Aquamarine: 0.50-2cts
Small Sapphire (below 0.50cts)
Small emerald (below 0.50cts)

Best of luck

Thanks @maryjane04 that is the colour of amethyst I most like. I have seen some nice ones by Jeff White before. Any other sellers you could recommend

@Skyjems ms she hasn't got a budget set for the piece I am going to recommend sending to Daniel M as I find him affordable and love his pieces. She has much smaller hands than I do so I think 1-2 ct is ideal.

How does she feel about blues?

Topaz can do some realy nice blues (at good prices), and if you’re ok with minor inclusion you can often find a blue zircon at a reasonable price.

(Though with any choices, setting will take some budget)

I'd gravitate towards a beautiful garnet! maybe spinel...? none of these are lavender...

I love these and think they would look great with RG!

Thanks @chroman I hadn't thought of a topaz maybe a london blue?

@Cerulean Oooh that garnet is lovely and I am not a big garnet fan in general.massive spinel fan though lol thanks I will share these with her.

Get a spinel. She can try a stone in a small size. She should see if she likes cut stones or raw crystal or cabochons. I recently bought some gems from MinePlanet, and I've bought from them last year. They're one of the few Etsy vendors who have stones within that budget, such as this one. The package will come from Sri Lanka, though I don't know what this means in terms of returns. https://www.etsy.com/listing/882810...d-cut-100?ref=shop_home_active_17&pro=1&frs=1
If she likes raw crystal, Gemologies on Etsy has beautiful rings.

What about tsavorite? I've found that it and emerald both look really nice against pale skin.

You can buy a pretty darn nice zircon, aquamarine or tourmaline in 1ct sizes for $150

Because of the price premium on 1ct+, she may want to consider a very fine quality tourmaline or even spinel in 0.70-0.90ct sizes

Cabs are also always a good option when budget is lean, if it's small opt for vivid color.

I'd love to see what she settles on.

Thanks everyone wow this is will be dangerous for me have to remember it’s not for me it’s not for me

This. She should buy a vintage ring, not a cheap stone. Plenty of bargain aquas -- even in platinum.

Thank you @LilAlex I had thought of that and will suggest it to her as well I agree it’s a better idea. Vintage things tend to be expensive in Australia but there are plenty of places PS pointed me to that ship to us.

she isn’t as bling obsessed as me just wanted a pretty ring and as I have had a few made I guess her thought was to go that way. Vintage is a great idea though

I agree if on a budget, to look at whole pieces rather than buying the stone and setting separately.

What is her price limit for the complete ring?

Well no reason you can't have a 2nd project when your sister's one is finished

Zircon would be beautiful with pale skin, if I do say so myself. As would am Aqua or Topaz. What about tourmaline? They seem to be all over the place in price. You can also ask Dan to see what he can get. He sourced some stones for gifts for me.
