Hi yall.

I have a pave setting with 1 ct of 1-2 pt diamonds and 2pt surprise sapphire stones in platinum. It is massive, heavy, and was very expensive. It was the setting for my upgrade ering and I had the 2.5 ct diamond reset. I am thinking about putting a colored stone in it but I have no idea how to even go about it. I don't know what I even want. Can yall help me? After being on ps a little while, I am aware that I will be overwhelmed with ideas! Thanks so much in advance!!!

The stone needs to be 8.6mm round. I love sapphires, rubies, and emeralds and like the idea of a durable stone but I don't want to sink that much money into the ring since I don't know how much wear I will get out of it. I really need inexpensive (<$1500). I like a lot of colors and see so many beautiful rings here! However, I don't really care for yellow or pink. I have attached the thread with a pic of the setting.

I really appreciate any help, ideas, or opinions! Thank you! =)2

Pretty setting! I looked around quick this morning but didn't find anything in that exact size. However I did find this indicolite tourmaline which I know is not high up there in durability but it's a beautiful color.

Thanks! I am not sure durability will matter much since it will be worn as a dinner ring. Lol, when we take our rowdy kids to mickey d's! Do you think blue is good? Would I be better going with a different color completely than the sapphire surprise stones?

Thanks again!

I really like that color blue but it is your ring, there are so many ways you can go for color! A pretty color spinel would be nice too, maybe something in a purple shade? You might have to have something custom cut since you are working with a specific shape and size.

What is the depth that the setting can hold?
Is the basket integrated or a peg head that can be easily changed out?

The questions above matter because coloured stones are always deeper than diamonds, and some gem types like beryl needs a LOT of depth.

The diamond that was in the setting was 5.41mm. I am not sure about peg head or integrated.

Here's an example:

8 mm sapphire - 2.5 cts
Depths are typically around 70%, unlike diamonds that are around 60%

Add in a fancier cut design, and it could be even deeper.
Also, depending on the RI, some gemstone types must be deeper to avoid windowing.

Thanks for this info! I really don't know anything about cs (or diamonds either, lol!) I may have to wait on this if it is going to be more than a simple buy stone and pop it in.

For durability look at chrystoberyl, spinel, and garnet (maybe) For cheap topaz, or amethyst. don't go with a fancy like Portuguese cuts as mentioned they will be deeper.

you have a budget and a favorite color? sometimes it helps to start there.

Green is my favorite color. I also like blue or red. I think the setting is bold and needs a bold color, not a pastel. Lol, more expensive I know. I really don't want to put more than $1500 in ot. I am just trying to get an idea of what would work not buy a stone immediately. Thanks for your help!

Can someone tell me the pros and cons of a chrome tourmaline please?

They are typically not round.
They are typically quite dark
They are generally less than 2 carats
