I have been lurking for some time, though it sounds rather creepy to admit, but am in the process of purchasing new studs.

I ordered a pair from Blue Nile- 1.08, Signature Ideal Cut, F, VS2, no culet or flourescence (had them bezel set in platinum) buttttttt I''m not entirely happy with the size. This is a rather large present and I want to be 100% satisfied (by which I mean that I''d like to avoid any diamond shrinkage syndrome in the near future).

I''ve heard that there is little noticeable difference in size unless you go up by at least .25 in weight per ear.

For slightly more, I can exchange these diamonds for 1.54, Ideal, J, VS2, no culet or flourescence. I used the little HCA cut tool (quite new at this and not entirely sure what the results mean) and it graded the diamonds as being excellent cut, .05 TIC?

So what would you pick?? The 1.08 F or the 1.54 J pair? Since I''m setting in platinum, I don''t want to stray too far from the colorless grades b/c it might me more obvious in such a white metal. But I also have little visual experience with F vs. J colors and need advice about whether there is an obvious difference to the unaided eye.

I appreciate any advice!

I''d go for the J''s and get the larger stones. Many PS members have J''s they say face up white.

I would go for the J's. I have some J's and I can see the warmth but on my ears no one notices. The warmth I only see in certain lighting and it is only 5% of the time; the rest of the time I don't see the warmth. I also have a friend that I showed J's to and she didn't notice color difference between H and J's; she is not color sensitive at all. I guess it is all personal preference.

I echo the ladies in going for the J''s.

I spoke with someone at Blue Nile and she STRONGLY recommended against going with the Js/Ideal cuts because apparently their signature ideal cuts are hand selected to not have any strong color and, with a regular ideal cut, "you never can tell how strong a J will be". Does this seem right?

Unfortunately, I only have a few more days to make a decision due to the 30 day exchange/return window.

As far as sizing goes, do you think there will be a noticeable difference between the 1.08s and the 1.54s?

Thank you so much for the help! I''ve been "building" and re-"building" earrings on BN all week and still haven''t figured out what to do!

Well, since you posted the J''s as "Ideal", I assumed they were BN''s "Signature Ideal". I agree, if you are going to go with a J, only get stones from their SI selection. Those are the better cut stones, and the better cut is more forgiving on color.
