This is my first time sending anything to GIA for a report so I want to make sure I don’t mess this up :roll2: This was sold to me as an Australian pink diamond, I don’t have a ton of money tied up in this, but I thought it would be fun to send it out and see what GIA says about it. It is definitely pink but it is around .05 so teeny tiny.

I know there are probably instructions on GIA’s site but I’m looking for pointers from people who have actually done this. For starters, it is tiny, so I have it in this gem holder because it’s the only one that it doesn’t roll around in. Do I send it in this or something else?

Anything else I need to know or consider? Someone said they send their stones to the California GIA location but NYC is closer for me, it will be mailed either way but is there any reason to choose one over the other?

TIA!

I think it will grade less than .15, according to this chart. ETA - looks like this report is only available at the NYC location.

Yes, I can get a colored diamond identification and origin report on this diamond because there is no size requirement. I did not realize that only the NY location offers this, so that’s the location I will have to go with. Thanks @junebug17 for catching that!

Glad I’m wrong! I hope you let us know the results.

I think the gem holder you’re using is fine. They’ll probably return it in a parcel paper. It is going to cost at least $150 ( I can look up the exact price later)
Is it worth it?

If I read correctly on the site @Rockdiamond it is $98. I would think even at this size, if it is a pink diamond, it would be worth more than I have into it even with the cost of the report and mailing etc.

Part of this is also just to satisfy my curiosity, I know this is small potatoes to most but to own a pink diamond of any size would be one thing to check off my jewelry bucket list.

Yes maam!! $98
If it will please you, sounds like a bargain:)

... This was sold to me as an Australian pink diamond ...

FWIW, as already mentioned, GIA offers 3 types of FCD reports.
Two require minimum, carat weight of 15 pt.
Only one has no minimum weight, and it's also the least expensive of the three and does not grade clarity.

Is it really is from Australia?
Easy to claim, but not easy to verify.
I don't think GIA offers an opinion on that, so you have to judge whether that vendor can be trusted.
Perhaps are just repeating what their seller told them.
If it had a girdle laser inscription with Arygyle's logo and Argyle ID number the odds go up.
If it had such girdle inscription and a signed Argyle certificate the price would rise further.

When I bought my second piano the seller told me it was played by so and so famous pianist.
Salespeople say things to influence us.

In the pics I see a delicious combo of pink and purple, a beautiful hue.

Thanks @kenny, I really appreciate your post because I know you have a collection of beautiful fancy colored diamonds and you really know your stuff.

I took the seller’s description with a grain of salt, anyone could say a diamond is anything they want, doesn’t make it true. Still, I thought it would be a fun learning experience. The color of the diamond was a pleasant surprise especially out of the setting, the setting was really not doing the color of the diamond any justice.

Anyways, thanks for your input, I really do appreciate it.
