here it is (it is 9mm):

I would like to wear my amethyst,, so I'm thinking it's time to set it. I'm really liking the singlestone leaf-type setting, and james meyer's bezel setting. do you think it would be weird to have a bezel with the leaf setting? it seems like the bezel is a heavy look, and the leaves are delicate..

the singlestone I like:

I don't want to spend too much, so maybe I'll do this in silver!

I love that leaf setting!!! Bezel may look to heavy with it but worth playing with the idea. I'm a February baby so love amethyst!!

I think it would look lovely but I may be biased as the single stone leaf ring is the setting design of my engagement ring :naughty:

I googled a bit to see if there's anything similar to your idea that may give a good feeling of what it'll be like. Don't know if it helps but at least it's some eye candy!

I like the 1st setting Elyxia put up -- maybe with a thinner bezel. I know you don't want to spend a lot, Sonya, but I sure can see that ammy in rose or yellow gold. It's almost a Rose de France color & it seems to me that silver will be awfully pale with it, where gold would accent the color more. On the other hand, you will be wearing it & what you like trumps me! ;)

I love the singstone leaf setting you posted, Sonya. |t will look so delicate with your stone! Where did you find that setting? I love it!

so my jeweler got back to me on the setting I posted, as well as the second one Elyxia posted - and it's far too much ~500-1000 (permutations with diamonds/ white sapphires and gold/ silver). I don't really want to invest so heavily in something I think I would want to reset later, so plan b.

I've been thinking about stock settings - do these come in silver, and is there a good place I can look for them? LOGR seems to only do gold, and their cheapest ones are plain solitaires (im not really a solitaire person).

or is there a good silversmith that you would recommend? I know DanielM is overwhelmeed these days.. :((

my budget - i"m hoping keeping the setting under 200 isn't an impossibility.

9mm round is a calibrated size so maybe check out Stuller? Most of their semi-mounts are also available in Sterling Silver and in Continuum Silver (which I think is akin to Argentium Silver) - I looked real quick and found this 9mm round bezel solitaire setting http://www.stuller.com/products/122054/5336922/?groupId=117246&fromProductDetails=True - your local jeweler can order from Stuller (and obtain pricing for you once you've found a couple of possible settings) - just make sure your jeweler also has the depth measurement of your stone to assure a correct fit. With Stuller, you also have the option of buying the shank and the head separately and having your jeweler put them together for you and set your stone.

Very pretty Amethyst, by the way - I look forward to seeing how you set it!

not all jewelers can set color stones w/o causing damage.
make sure the bench jeweler knows as much about color stones as s/he does about diamonds.
very different animals at the bench.
also, I'd be wary of setting the stone and then having it removed for a reset.

I think Kelpie has that Singlestone setting. I think the only thing I would change is to request that the shank be thicker (in height) so that it does not go out of round. I remember that her ring went out of round because it was so thin.
