I'd love some help with setting ideas for the cute little sapphire I just got from Mastercutgem's summer sale. It was a great price and I'd love to put it in a setting that will give me the most bang for my buck. I don't want to spend a lot of money, because I have other projects in the works. I definitely don't want to do anything custom. I'm thinking I'd like something pre-loved, or a stock setting from Stuller, Over Night Mountings or Adwar. My first issue is to choose a metal color. I took pictures of the sapphire next to my 18K yellow gold and 14K white gold bands. What do you think looks best?

I love it with yellow gold!

I prefer it with white gold as the color seems more balanced to me. The yellow gold will probably emphasise the yellow tones over the blue.

My preference would be the white gold................pretty stone!

The white gold is very pretty but I love the continuity of the warm tones in the gem with the yellow gold.

For some reason my eye is gravitating towards the yellow gold. To bring out more of the blue, I would set this as the center in a 3-stone design with some green gems as side stones.

I like the warmer tones it shows against the yellow gold. What are the dimensions of the stone?

It's 1.06 carats, 5.93mm X 4mm--on the smallish side to be a stand alone, so I was thinking some sort of halo, or as a multi-stone?? I really don't have enough experience to figure it out on my own. Good thing I have all of you!

My vote Goes to WG. It gives a stunning contrast with the beautiful colours in your stone

There's a pretty filigree setting on LT for $400. Don't know your budget but it will fit your 6mm stone, maybe she will take an offer.

This rose gold filigree one is really pretty, so I'd definitely consider it. As far as budget, I'd like to keep the setting to $500 or under.

Here's a few pre-loved options that peaked my interest. The first one is for sale by @Taurus2313 on Loupetroop. It's only a few dollars over my price range, and I like the idea of supporting a fellow PriceScoper. I'm not sure if my stone would be overwhelmed by the setting, but I think it would fit.

This one is platinum.

This one is 14k white gold and a little over budget.

A couple questions--would you have to resize any of these settings? Are you setting your stone yourself, or will you ask somebody else to do it? If you're going to a jeweler, the adjustment and/or setting cost should factor into the setting, I think.

I like the ones in 18k and 14k the most, and the platinum one looks like it needs a little polishing. But, all of these are the three-wire prong style, and I wonder if they might be more tricky to DIY.

I won't be trying to set it myself--I'm way too inexperienced. Some of the used settings I found are already my size but some would need resizing. I'm figuring up to approximately $500 for the setting but if I have to pay a little more for resizing, polishing, or prong work I'd be okay with that.

Here's a few reasonably priced Stuller settings I like. Any thoughts?

I really like the two-toned setting with a side halo :geek2:. The rest are ok but too conventional imo for your unusual sapphire.

I like the first one! I think it will showcase the unusual colors with just enough bling.

Yellow gold!

I love the first one! It’ll complement the cut of the stone really well

Your stone is gorgeous! I like the first and second one.
