We are researching what type of metal to go with and are really confused between titanium and tungsten. It seems like a lot of the websites we have read are also confused about which one requires a special tool to cut the ring off. Some sites are saying titanium and others tungsten. We aren't sure what to believe anymore. Can anyone give me a definitive answer? Or sway us to decide on which metal to go with? The weight of the ring doesn't matter to him and he is open to a polished look but it doesn't have to be.

HELP! Thanks :loopy:

I think they both have to be cut off. My husband has both and the biggest difference between them is the weight. Titanium is very light and tungsten is very heavy.

Titanium can certainly be cut with a normal blade. I do it all the time.

Titanium can be cut by normal means.
Tungsten carbide has to be cracked by vice clamps or similar tool.
I'm not sure if there's a tungsten alloy (i.e. something other than tungsten carbide) that can be cut by traditional means.

As the others said, titanium is the one that can be easily cut. For my husband's profession, he is only allowed a titanium band for this reason.

Titanium must be cut, while tungsten literally needs to be cut off (or struck with enough force).

Tungsten carbide is made from powder, and has properties similar to ceramic. It can be cracked off in a vise or toggle clamp. Titanium is a metal that has to be cut. It will not shatter like tungsten carbide can. A hacksaw or a normal ring cutter with a sharp blade can be used.
