Novice here, looking to upgrade my ring for a big anniversary. Currently have a 1.61 ct diamond (F, SI2) ring, looking to upgrade and spend in the ~$30K range. Want it to be more sparkly than it is...

Looking at options like these - would love more viewpoints. The Whiteflash ACA looks great but also seems to be priced at a premium so very much welcome alternatives. Thanks in advance!

I prefer #3 of your choices. Are you trading in your current diamond or just buying a new one outright? Just asking because I was wondering who you planned to trade it in with if that were the case.

The adiamor stone is not well cut. 35/41.4 crown/pavilion is not a good combo. Will show leakage under the table.

I also prefer #3 but #2 is also a nice stone (just more inclusions). ACAs are at a premium because they are vetted to have
all the right angles and have all the images to prove that they are what they say they are.

Not a round expert, but in addition to whiteflash check out Brian Gavin diamonds - also cuts to super ideal and pricing is fair, his office will be SO helpful over the phone/via email as well

That 2.88c J would be a great size jump, but would you be okay with a J? Many people here love them and the cut will hide some of the tint, but not all of it. I recently upgraded an ideal cut J to an F because the tint from the side of the J bothered me.

Thanks all! I am not trading in, will keep the old one.

How about this one? Not sure how I should think about trading off size for quality...

As @Patty said, if you have an F now, going to the size you are looking at in a J will really stand out as far as tint is concerned. The super ideal cut is not going to mask it. I strongly recommend you do not go that low in color based on what you are used to.

Thank you. Super helpful. How about the I, do you think that will be OK or should I look to G or H?

You could ask Whiteflash to take pictures of the stones upside down to get a better idea of whether or not the tint bothers you. My reason to upgrade was for a better color. If size is your priority, I or J might be fine for you.

I DEFINITELY would not go below H but if you can swing the G I suggest it. I have a 2.5+ carat super ideal in H and it is too tinted for me, and then even more so when I compare to another solitaire and studs I have that are all E color.

Can you go to a reputable local jeweler who carried GIA graded stones so you can see some I or J stones in person?

Many years ago I gave up a F color 1 carat for an I color 2 carat and totally regretted it.

Personally I find the jump from G to H to be worse than the jump from F to G.

I like #3 the best of the ones you posted. Definitely ask WF for side-by-side photos showing the profile view.

If you go to look in person as @dreamer_dachsie wisely suggests, be sure you are looking at diamonds close in size to what you are planning to purchase because a lower color in a much smaller stone will still look very colorless and you will not be getting a representative comparison.

I also recommend going to a jeweler who has GIA graded stones in the size you are considering, to see how color sensitive you are. Just because you have an F now, doesn't mean that will be your preference. I have high colored stones and low colored stones, and I don't really prefer the whitest stones. You have to figure out what you prefer and if color is your top requirement, then you need to go with that. If it isn't, then you can go by size. Just don't compromise on cut as that will impact everything. And I would think as far as clarity, you'd want it eye clean.

For what it's worth, I am extremely color sensitive and I traded my F for an I and couldn't be happier - you just have to see it in person to know your limits!

Thank you all - totally going to head to a store to see the color difference. Looks like the only way I get above a 2.5 with the cut I want, in my price range, is to go down in color.

Highly recommend you look at color in person, AND in both store light and sunlight. I did and it was hugely helpful to determine my color tolerance. Here’s my thread (it’s very long but lots of good info and photos).
