Looking for a 3.7-4.2 ct RB VS1/2 clarity , H color, triple 0 , under $60k with upgrade option. Whiteflash appears to be my best option particularly I am local. However, there is no exact match so I figured I would pick from one of those. Both HCA 0.9. Not sure if J will bother me in the future, they both look fine individually - just saw them last week in person, but definitely not as bright as a H which I saw at WF but almost $30 k more expensive.

please let me know what you think. Thank you so much ladies,

If you have the option of seeing J in person, then I would definitely do so (and in multiple lighting conditions)! I am personally not bothered with the tint even at the larger sizes, but it’s very personal.

of course you could always get the larger size in a J and then upgrade towards a higher colour; or a smaller size in H and upgrade towards a larger size. Comes down to what you prefer!

As soon as you see tint or warmth in a larger carat size for the first time you can not unsee it, Also when you start off with a 4+ carat your options for upgrading are limited...especially going down in size to go up in color would be difficult.

Since you saw it IRL and liked it, plus WF has a $1 upgrade policy, I'd consider it.

Both beautiful stones...you can always easily change the color in the future.

I looked at the rotating Sparkle and Brilliance videos. The 4.17 spoke to me for some reason. Does one of them
speak to you???

They are both gorgeous if the J is ok with you. I would get it and upgrade color later.

I'd personally start with a 3 ct I color and then upgrade as soon as they get a larger I color stone in. Both of the J color stones are beautiful if you don't mind the color. And you can upgrade color later from one of those, of course! WF definitely carries more large stones for upgrade possibilities than any other superideal vendor.

You may want to reach out to Victor Canera. I spoke to him about a week ago and I’m pretty sure he said he was cutting a 3.7 or 3.8 carat. I don’t know any of the details because I’m not in the market for a new stone right now, but when I asked him what he was up to, I’m pretty sure he said he was cutting a 3.7 or 3.8 carat. I love his diamond. Good luck in your search. Can’t wait to see what you decide

Oh... update.... I just looked at my notes from my conversation with Victor and I wrote down 3.7, H/I, VS2. I have no idea why I even wrote it down, but I tend to take notes on everything because my memory is poor. I believe Victor has the same upgrade policy as WF??? I didn’t ever get a price from him- I didn’t ask and he didn’t say. Again, good luck with whatever you select and post pics.

Thank you so much @NicoleNeedsHelp , I just contacted him and looks like a I/VS2 3.69. He said he will get information in a few days and send to me.

I am thinking of the same thing but unfortunately WF just does not have a I either in that carat range. I agree and that's why I started with a H.

I only started to consider J because I saw it in person at WF and it faced pretty white. But once put it next to H, I definitely see the difference

Glad we lean towards the same one:) I did see this one in person and it is beautiful. I have not seen the 4.035ct one though.

Spending that kind of money at that carat size you will see tint in a J...If it was my money I would definitely go up in color at 4+ carat round.

They do have a 4.0x carat in H but it was $30k more... I have a hard time to justify that.

You can always go down in size and up in color if that’s your preference, keep in mind you will see more tint in a 4 ct stone vs a 1 ct stone

I am sort of limited by their inhouse selection and the next size they have in H is a 3.1x ct while I hope to stay above 3.5. I am debating whether to wait or just go for the J for now...

Would the HCA 0.9 concern you? I heard <1 can be concerning for potential light leakage?

Not potential light leakage...obstruction is what I think you are talking about.

But no worries with ACAs. You don't need to use the HCA at all with AGS Ideal cut stones, and especially ACAs which are top ideal cuts.

I think it's fine for you to take the J you liked and wait and see what I color stones come in. A lot of people choose I color for large ACAs and I am sure if you desire to upgrade color, you'll be able to eventually!

Another thing to add here is that you will probably see the difference in comparison to a higher colour, but as you will not be comparing it to a higher colour stone regularly, will you see/notice/be bothered by the tint in the stone alone on a day to day basis?

Just a thought, but is custom cutting an I possible at WF? Perhaps worth a shot.

Also, maybe worth figuring out your priorities currently and future plans (if you get the 4ct J, do you envision upgrading both size and colour in the future, or just colour)? Reason I bring this up is that if you want to upgrade size above 4ct you should pick the vendor who has a big(ger) selection of larger super ideal stones. So selecting Victor Canera, as someone suggested up thread, in that instance (if you wish to go above 4ct) only makes sense if he carries some stones in the “even bigger” sizes; and if you want him to make your setting (he does beautiful but expensive handmade settings and has a signature style). If you want to get another setting (like vatche or something) then probably WF is a better bet than VC.

Ok I am very excited to contribute to this discussion because I’ve inquired about both of these stones at some point along my journey. I had them compare the colors side by side and here is what they said:

“The 4.178ct is a solid mid-range J. The 4.035ct is a higher (whiter) J, though still accurately graded. Both are on the normal yellow color scale (no brown, green or grey).”

So if the J color is a concern at all, that info might help a bit!

I really appreciate you sharing this information! I did see the 4.178 in person but not the 4.035 yet. I will do that in the next few weeks. Thank you!

I had a 2.5 carat J colored stone that was just too tinted for me, so when I upgraded to a 3 carat stone, I went up to I color. As other people have stated, color sensitivity is a personal thing, so what bothered me may not bother you at all. The tint will appear most noticeable from the side, so if you’re at all bothered by it, consider getting a setting that covers the side of the stone a bit.

please let me know what you think. Thank you so much ladies,

Wow! Love the size!

J will likely show some tint, but does it bother you if you look at the diamond standalone? Usually, it is hard to detect color in a well cut stone unless compared to a higher color stone side by side.

That being said, I would stay G+ over 2ct personally. But it depends on whether you like the look of warmer diamonds. Also, if you set the diamond in yellow gold, then the color will not be as discernable.

Is the color saturation mainly in the tip of the diamond? In that case, maybe the color will not show much once mounted.

Hope this helps.

Happy shopping :)

I upgraded to a 3ct ACA H from a 2ct gia xxx I color. I can definitely see a tint in my H and I feel it looks warmer than the I due to the size. I have a 0.8ct J color super ideal and I definitely see a tint in certain lighting. I am not bothered by lower colors so they all look beautiful to me

Ladies, have any of you have experience with Brian Gavin Preorder? I am eyeing on this one

thank you for your thoughts.... I currently have a G just above 2ct from 10 yrs ago, and I definitley do not see color. But the price is steep for a G in 4ct:(
