Long time no see. I asked for design ideas for my two paraibas before and some of you chipped in: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/a-tale-of-two-paraibas.273862/. The slightly larger blue oval is 0.58ct (6.5x5.0mm) and the more green-blue oval is 0.57ct (6.2x4.7mm).

I finally found a toi et moi design that speaks to me and would like your suggestions regarding the stones for the bow/ribbon and whether to halo the paraibas or not. (I intend to put the slightly smaller green-blue oval on the top.)
  • My gut feeling is to go with the pink bow/ribbon, and either light pink spinel or sapphire would work.
  • I suppose the ribbon size would change depending on whether the paraibas will be haloed or not. If going with halo and pink bow/ribbon, maybe diamond halo would work better so as not to have too much pink?
  • And finally, which gold would you go with, rose gold or white gold?

The toi et moi design that made my heart sing:

Your opinion and suggestions will be very much appreciated!

I voted pink bow and no halo as I think pink would be such a pretty contrast, but it has to be the right pink with a neon pop. Pastel pink wouldn’t be right.

Alternatively, all white diamond halo and no bow is a very classic look, probably easier to rehome down the road if you ever wanted to do that.

What are your thoughts on this vintage style? I think the baguette diamonds on the sides look lovely while not competing with the gems.

I think you are right. The bow is not directly against the paraibas; light pink may not work out enough contrast.
Yes, diamond halo without bow is a classic look, but somehow I am not excited about it. The heart wants what it wants......

I agree with @peacechick on the pink bow being neon rather than pastel. I also chose no halo, pink bow because more color is always better!

Thanks! I am going to try hot/neon pink. =)2

I like the ring you posted! think the pear shape works great in this design; I am just not sure about this design for two ovals.

I did consider adding halo to make pear shapes, like the one below. I had the one below as an option for a long while without being able to pull the trigger. But when I saw the above ring with bow, I immediately thought this is it. I waited for some time to be sure, and I still think the bow design is the one. It may not be classic or liked by many, but I love it.

With hot/neon pink for the bow, any suggestions on the gold choice, white or rose gold?

I wonder if you have considered the vendor that you’re planning to use? Your original inspiration piece is a true antique that would’ve been handcrafted to achieve the delicacy that it has. I don’t think it’s possible to scale it down to work with your stones and achieve that level of delicacy using casting methods. I only know of one vendor who even comes close to being able to reproduce that kind of delicacy and that’s Sako. But even with him, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him do something so delicate as that. My concern is that what you love about that original ring will be lost if you try to do it using a casting method I don’t know if any vendors who can reproduce it using hand fabrication either.

Graphic design is my passion. :lol-2:

If you keep the bow the exact same style, I am Team Diamond. The way that the diamonds are set in the bow leaves a lot of metal between the stones, which might look odd with hot pink sapphires or spinels.

You’d probably want to do a micropave bow if you go the hot pink route.

Thank you very much for your input! I had no idea about this. I will need ask and think twice about following this design now.

Wow, thank you very much for making the graphic representations! They are very helpful and I can see that it makes more people vote for a diamond bow now.

I see and agree with your point of the bow looking weird with hot pink sapphire or spinels. But, somehow although the paraibas with diamond bow look cool and the design has simplicity, I start to lose interest in this design. I could not really tell why; maybe the enlarge bow loses its delicacy character?

These look beautiful but I think they illustrate the issue I was describing above because if this is to scale the ribbons of the bow are less than 0.8mm at the widest point, which I don’t think is possible to make. Will you like it with the bow scaled way bigger?.

It's very different but I wanted to show you my tourmaline pear toi et moi ring. I remember thinking that doing this with all Paraibas including the melee would be the dream. The pears are 1.72ctw and the ring is ~23mm long from point to point. The band is just under 2mm wide iirc:

I adore your inspiration, it's one of my favorite ever PS rings, but I 100% agree with @Dreamer_D that the proportions would need to change and your bow would need to be significantly bigger. You could consider halos in either the bow color or in Paraibas to kind of beef up the size of your main stones and get the proportions closer to the original.

Scale is the challenge here. The turquoise dots are based on the measurements of the paraibas:

Another option that might work better with your gems would be to use a different bow shape:
