here''s the situation...

purchased an 1.56ct, E color, Ex cut, SI2 stone from Bluenile. From 12 inches away, it looks gorgeous, but i handed the diamond to my brother and he probably put the diamond 4 or 5 inches away from his face and he was able to spot a white bubble or some type of white inclusion. He did need to rotate and angle the diamond to spot the white marking, but regardless, he has no real experience with diamonds.

my question is, should i return this diamond in exchange for a 1.55ct, G color, Ex cut, SI1 stone. I saw the reference diagram and this diamond only has a cloud under the table of the diamond. My E color stone had a white feather under the table. I''m not sure if it''s worth it or not. My gf did mention she favors size and color, but im scared that when she sees the white marking, she''s gonna flip.

let me know what you guys think i should do. thanks

jason

It sounds to me like the inclusion isn''t THAT visible. You mentioned that your brother had to angle it to see the inclusion - is the stone mounted? Would he have been able to look at it at that angle once the stone is mounted?

erica,

thanks for the reply. no the stone is not mounted. im not too sure if the stone was mounted that it would be visible. it''s almost in the center of the table, so im guessing that it would still be there regardless if it''s mounted.

do you think i should try to go up in clarity and go down in color? lemme know your thoughts.

thanks,
jason

Just from what you''ve posted, all other things being equal (relating to the quality of the cut), I would go for the G seven days a week.

I just prefer stones with a little bit more body color, especially given that the inclusion is somewhat visible in the E SI2, something that would bug me to no end. I think of it this way - once you choose the G diamond, you won''t be constantly carrying around an E stone for comparison, making the difference in whiteness quite obvious, since a G by itself looks pretty durn white. However, the feather will *always* be there inside the E stone.

*shrug*

Personally, I look at inclusions as what makes my diamond *mine*. It is one thing if it is a big black dot right under the table, and another thing if it is white inclusion that is only visible when I hold the ring in exactly this position in exactly this light.

If clarity (or eye cleanliness as the case may be) is extremely important, consider returning the stone and working with a vendor that has their diamonds in house. Whiteflash and Good Old Gold are the ones that come to mind.

all points well taken.

im leaning more towards returning it. i look pass the brilliance of the diamond and keep searching for the inclusion. i have an appointment with an appraiser on wednesday and im going to ask his opinion as well. i have a 30 day return policy which works to my advantage.

i think my gf would be happy with any type of diamond, but i dont want the little mark to bug her. like i said, she said size and color were more important, but i dont want her to get embarrassed when she shows her coworks, family, and friends her e-ring and they spot it also.

That sounds like a plan.

I think a G is perfectly white but a visible inclusion would bother me.

I agree. I''d likely prefer the G stone if that inclusion is totally eyeclean.

I''d also take the G. I think E is color overkill, and very few people would ever be able to tell the difference between and E and a G.
