Hi everyone! I would appreciate any feedback you may offer.

My boss has assigned me to sell items on eBay. I recently came across an old jewelry box and have to sell some jewelry. The problem is, I do not know anything about jewelry, stones, etc. I want to list this properly. I have excellent feedback and am an honest seller and have no intention on misleading my buyers. Can someone offer some opinions on how to describe or list this ring? I do not know what it is, I have no paperwork on it and no idea of the value. I thought I would come to the experts for some assistance so I do not misinform my buyers.

I have a slide show of many and better quality photos if anyone is interested in having more pics let me know. I could not get the link to the slideshow to work in this post.

The inside of the ring is stamped 14K. It has a number engraved inside 11648 (could be 11678) and then a space and 5 that is a little higher than the other numbers.

The band is gold but the portion of the ring that holds the diamonds is silver in color.

Any assistance you might offer is appreciated!

Hi,

Can you have an appraisal done on the ring so that you can have a more accurate size of the center stone and the ct. weight of the diamonds surrounding it? It would be difficult for us to provide that information by looking at a picture & most bidders would want to know those details.

Also, selling jewelry on eBay doesn''t usually result in much $. Bidders there like bargains!

I just thought I would sell on ebay because that is where I sell most of her household stuff and I have seen rings on there. It looks like the rings go for cheap on eBay but in my bosses Sotheby''s catalogues I have seen them go for 150K. I don''t know where to start. Is there a better auction site or must I really get an appraisal? She just told me "sell everything" .

I don''t know where to get an appraisal and my boss doesn''t care what it brings. I don''t want to misrepresent the ring to my buyers. I guess I can always say what you see is what you get. Thanks for answering my post!

Check here for an independent appraiser near you.

You can always take it to a jeweler as the cheapest method and get an approximate notion of what it is.

Or say "looks like sapphire with diamonds, etc" no appraisal but give generous refund so buyer can get it looked at.

If you said 100% satisfaction and item can be returned no questions asked within 30 days type of thing.

I would possibly consider this as I would want an independent appraisal anyway on top of whatever the seller offers.

my .2 cents

I don''t know why, but your post is really confusing to me. Where is this merchandise from? If it is from your boss''s store, and you are selling it as part of your job, wouldn''t you have a dedicated username to sell stuff for your job? Also, if it is property of your boss, why doesn''t she have any information what these items are? I''m sure even if she said sell everything, obviously she wouldn''t want you to sell a 20K ring for 10 dollars, or misrepresent a ring from a gumball machine as something more valuable than it is for liability reasons.

I personally would go back to your boss and get more information about what exactly you are selling.

Ditto, I''m very confused as well.
