Help needed - James Allen return issue

Hi all! I’m looking for advice. I recently bought their pre set halo diamond studs in two different sizes. Before purchasing, I had called customer service to inquire about the dimensions of the earrings. The representative that I spoke with did not have that information available and agreed that purchasing both and returning one pair would be an acceptable approach.

I ended up keeping the smaller pair and returning the larger pair (because the size difference was only discernible to my eyes when the earrings were right next to each other). However, my refund was processed as the amount for the smaller pair.

I spoke with customer service a couple of times today and was told that the inspector said that the earrings were the smaller size. This seems like a reasonable honest mistake, since they seemed very similar size to me. So I requested that the earrings be re-inspected. The customer service representatives have been friendly, but I still haven’t received a call back from their management confirming that they are willing to reinspect. I’m not sure why I would get pushback on a reinspection.

I’m getting close to the end of the return period, and I’m wondering if I should just return the second pair and request a refund of the balance of my payment amount. Although I’m afraid that I still might get short changed in my refund since I’m sure that the pair that I kept is the smaller pair.

This is my first purchase from James Allen, so I’m nervous about the interaction. (I can’t help but feel ripped off, even though the most likely scenario is that their inspector made an honest mistake.)

Do any PS-ers have a customer service rep that they found to be particularly helpful that I might be able to request before going down the return everything route? What would you do in this situation?

Thank you in advance!

Oh my I haven’t dealt with JA but I would just call them again and hold for management. Do you mind sharing with us the two sizes you got? Do you happen to have calipers where you can measure?

Why not just return the pair that you still have, get your refund and then start the process again and order the size that you want? I think you mention that. I don't see how they can short change you if you ordered both at the same time. Wouldn't they have to reimburse you for the total amount of the invoice since you are returning everything that you received? I don't see how they could claim that you are returning yet another small pair.

This is a BRILLIANT IDEA!!! I would do this.

Returning and re ordering sounds annoying for OP, but is what I'd do if management doesnt call her back by tomorrow. In the meantime, I'd call them tomorrow and not hang up until you've spoken to someone higher up who can CONFIRM that they are rechecking the earrings and will extend your return period accordingly.

For me, packing them back up and taking them to ship would be less of a pain than hanging on hold waiting for someone higher up and then perhaps arguing back and forth. But I guess we all have our different levels of tolerance for these types of things.

Thank you for the advice! I was able to speak with a manager this morning, who had the earrings remeasured resulting in my refund being corrected.

This is a good point! Thank you for taking the time to reply! I didn’t want to just reorder because I got them during a sale, and the regular price increased after my purchase as well. Just me wanting to hang onto the good deal that I got.

I was able to speak with management today and they reinspected and corrected my refund
