Hello people newbie here!

Only just started researching these past 3 months for the perfect stone. At first I only thought BN and JA were the only ones good enough to check out until I came across WF. What can I say about WF and their specialist Melissa, just 10/10 help and insight at all times and so I am probably buying from them!

I will probably go for an ACA round brilliant stone with the following specs:
  • 0.7 - 0.8 ct
  • eye clean SI1 - VS2
  • F - G
My budget is restricted to a maximum of $4000 as I have to factor in duty + taxes here in Cyprus (EU) and then a setting from a local seller.

Some questions I have are:
  1. Would going for a lower color grade be safe maybe an H or I?
  2. Is the expert selection from WF a good choice or just go for ACA all the way? Is the difference both in quality and price worth it?
Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks!

Hello Bolar, welcome to PS!
Which ACA diamonds have you narrowed it down to?

Hi good to talk to you again we also spoke on Reddit!

These are 3 that I am comparing right now which are close to my budget and specifications and this one too.

I have lowered color and clarity as you can see when comparing the first three to the latter.

These are the ones Melissa from WF suggested, even though they are a bit out of budget.

I want to stay within budget and make sure I get the most bang for my buck.

This is just my opinion, and I know everyone is different. But if I were looking at a sub 1ct stone from WF, I would be fine with H color and eye clean SI1, and would get the biggest stone I could afford :)

with an ACA I would be comfortable as low as an I-j

My first diamond in my ER was a .718 I SI1 ACA and I loved it. I never saw a tint in that diamond. It was a firecracker.

Folks are making great points. I assumed H was the lowest color grade you were comfortable with. But if you're open to I or even J, I would ask WF to take some side by side pics.

Thank you all so much for providing your helpful comments and screenshots! :kiss2:

I am definitely more confident now in going down to H-I and even J. I will discuss with Melissa from WF and once I have narrowed down my choices will ask for side by side photos.

I think an I will be fine. I have ACA I's SI1 earrings and the stones are about .85 ct each and they look very white to me.

Is this for you or a beloved? Have you/beloved seen I/J diamonds in person to know if you prefer or don't mind or even don't see the slight tint?

I only ask because I started with an ideal cut I and while from above it seemed quite white at first, eventually from the side the tint bothered me. Now that I've trained my eye I can see the tint from above too - it is as if the I stones "go with" my skin tone/nails more, whereas my upgraded stone (an F; I think I would have been fine wiht a slight increase to an H but there was limited selection) is whiter in contrast. I have ACA stones for studs that are I's and they do face up quite white on my ears, but I can still tell they are more tinted than my F (which I don't mind as the settings are yellow gold and my hair is red and I like the slight tint on my ears).

I would stay at "I" or higher. I have owned a 1.14 J and you can see tint in them in certain lighting.

I would ask for a picture of the G and the 2 Hs (.712 and .716). There is really not much size to gain
going down to an "I". You can save some money at an "I" though if you're good with the color.

Perhaps you should ask for a picture of the G, one of the Hs, and one of the Is if you are looking to save a little.
If you don't see much tint difference then it may be worth it.

It's for my lady actually. I have seen sample stones showing color at a local seller and I have also asked WF to provide a side by side photo in order to compare H-I-J stones that I have narrowed down to.

I will check and keep this thread posted, thanks!

Have you seen this 0.773ct H VS2?

Larger and still within budget. Register with WF before purchasing and get $100 off first order to bring the price down further.

Awesome stone indeed also thanks for the tip! I will look into this one as well.

Hey guys, so I got the reply from WF and would be happy to share with you so you let me know your thoughts if possible.

Here they are:

The J's are not significantly larger to my eye - and once set, you'll never notice. I would stick with one of the G's, as that is a more visible difference.

Bank wire price with the $100 off discount for signing up = $3978. Gets you the best of both worlds... slightly larger spread and no worries about tinting. Figured this might be important to you since you are overseas, so returns/upgrades likely aren't as snap-of-the-finger easy.
I suggest you put it hold since diamonds posted here tend to go quick.

Because you are outside of the U.S. and exchanging would be difficult, I would stick to a G (or that F would be great if it fits your budget.)

Thank you again for your insight guys!

So I am guessing it is not worth the risk to go for H or lower right?

I will look to go for a F-G or even H if I can and make sure I don’t forget about that -$100 offer upon registration lol!

I would suggest sticking to H or higher for an engagement ring.

That 0.8ct F @DejaWiz posted is a nice choice!

Yes, my advice since you are out of the country is to stick with F,G,H.

I think the size difference is negligible (to my eye), so I would stick with the G color just to be safe since you're outside of the US. I really like the .83

Hey guys so I have narrowed it down to 2 ACA choices from WF. I have attached their diagrams below and also an actual photo from WF showing the feather on the pavilion for the G stone.

0.7 G SI1:

0.72 H VS2:

Would appreciate your insight on these two choices even though you cannot go wrong with WF.

Is the inclusion on the G stone a deal breaker? Should i go down to H color just for that inclusion in your opinion?

Thanks guys!

Can you post the links the the two diamonds on WF website?

I do not have the links right now unfortunately as I am not on my laptop (at the office).

What can you tell me from the information provided above?

Thanks!

I'm assuming this is the G

and the H/VS2 is one of these?

I think it is the first one.

I would ask WF how many inches away can you see that feather. I'm thinking it may not be visible at all (but you
need to ask them.)

If it is eye-clean I wouldn't have a problem with either of these stones and would choose depending on what's more important
to me/you...a better color, a slight gain in size that probably wont be noticeable, cost, one speaks to you more, etc.

Here they are in a "compare" if I picked the correct H.

I believe the cleaner H stone would be better since G and H colored stones are not that different right?
