I've been reading this website for years. You have all unknowingly helped me find the right engagement ring oh so many years ago. I finally decided to join to be amongst the "Rock" stars! Unfortunately, diamond purchasing is still so confusing to me and I haven't the time to re learn all I have forgotten. So, I am here to ask for some advice....

I am looking to purchase a pair of earrings for my wife. I have been given the choice from a local dealer shown in the pics below for a price of $20,000 CAD ($15,000 USD). The measurements seem good??. However, I am influenced by the ease of online places like WF etc where "cut above" etc. potentially take the guess work out of buying a brilliant performing stone. I am hoping some of you can give me opinions of how these below should perform based on measurements and pics and if they are worth purchasing if I want that same standard of performance, or close to it. Any advice would be wonderful.

I truly appreciate you being here! Thanks in advance!1.jpg

The first stone looks better than the second, but both are overpriced. You can get a better cut stone with better clarity from Whiteflash for a few thousand dollars less.

What is your budget? Are D's really necessary or can you go G/H?

Thanks Kim, yes these are beautiful but they are almost $10,000 more than the ones I posted. I think my post was not clear. The price of the stones I posted were $15,000 US for the pair. The whiteflash ones are almost $25,000 for the pair. My question was, based on the pics and measurements will these diamonds perform well?

Sorry, I misunderstood your first post and didn't realize the price was for both. If you want the same standard of performance as a super ideal cut, the second stone will likely not meet that standard. The first stone looks pretty good but still won't perform as well as a super ideal.

Have you seen them in person? Are they eye-clean?

Thanks for your reply Kim. I have not seen them in person. I am told they are eye clean. They are coming from Mumbai. The dealer in Toronto tells me that his rep in Mumbai says they are "super cut". But from my limited understanding it seems the depth and pavilion angle are a bit out of the range of performance cut. Is this correct in your view?

Both stones are actually within HCA <2. Neither stone is H&A. Can you ask for an ASET or Ideal-Scope image of both? Do they have any other options for you to look at?

I'll let our diamond connoisseurs answer your questions, but I just wanted to say welcome to the forum!!

My wife has a pair of one in a million eyes where she can tell the difference between a D and an F. I've done the bait and switch on her and she comes up with D every time! I would like to stay around the $15-20,000 for the pair.

Thanks Kim for the tip. I will ask for the images.

What is your view on fluorescence in a D color stone? Will medium or strong affect the color of the D in normal daily light?

He sent me the below ASET and IDEAL scopes...I would love if you could give me an analysis on what you see and what I should look out for in the future, and of course, if these stones will perform, (if not perfect) then at least above average (for the money I am spending?) Thanks so much!

The first stone looks like an excellent performer. The second stone has some digging at the girdle--there will be a reduction in brightness where it's green along the circumference. Can you see if they have any alternatives for the second stone? It could still be decent for the price, but I'd see first if they have anything better.

Kim, can I ask if there is a noticible difference in 4 prong earrings measuring 6.62 x 6.58 and earring measuring 6.82 x 6.79? Basically can someone tell the later at a meer .2mm smaller is actually smaller or is .2mm size difference negligible?

0.2mm is usually where the eyes can detect a difference in size. I think 6.62 vs 6.82 will be noticeably different.
