Help on adding side stones to 1.5 oval solitaire

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone has ever added side stones to a solitaire ring? I just got my new A Jaffe setting (I love it) but (long story short) have to get the head replaced. I was convinced to get prong diamonds and it’s very worrisome for my wedding and (even with a spacer).

My husband and I are going to reset the head in exchange for plain prongs (I’m constantly nervous my prongs are hitting my wedding band) and I was wondering if they would be able to add side stones. Maybe small ones to create a wider presence? But also if this isn’t possible (I’ve scoured the web for an answer) it’s okay because I really love the feel of my ring. Jsut wish there was a tad more bling.

Would love advice!!

(I cannot go back to ask where we got our ring - another long story)7A09F885-98A8-4A58-AE18-B40FF02D549B.jpegC64C270A-ECA4-4ECD-B627-9FAA1BB938A3.jpeg5B3CFCA7-6E7F-4961-9C4F-47BDBB4F4520.jpeg0F893042-6835-41CA-96E4-BBEB78C379F9.jpegimage.jpgimage.jpg

Oops! Posted a pic of a bouquet on accident as well :). But hey, who doesn’t love flowers!?

Following :)
I have a 1.5 ct oval that looks similar to yours in its length / width ratio (mine is a kinda chubby 1.34 ratio).
My current setting is the yellow gold James Allen 3 stone with the marquise sidestones
After wearing my ring for over a year My thoughts are that the Marquise sidestones are too small for my 1.5 oval center. Also I find the sidestones dull, not much sparkle.
I too am looking at resetting, possibly in a solitaire or split shank, but I love a 3 stone so if I try that route again I want bigger and better quality sidestones.
Looking forward to the feedback you get here!

That’s helpful! I do love your current . I’m also into the bigger side stones but haha man it always feels that way! I get used to it and BAM want bigger

I also really don’t want to have to fully reset. I actually love this setting. A Jaffe does an amazing job weighting the band so the ring doesn’t spin.

I hope someone on here can look at the side of my setting and see if there’s a way to salvage and add to it? Might be a tall ask :/

Oh yes that is really nice! I have no idea if your current setting could be modified but I’m sure others here can advise you on that.
I had an A Jaffe setting at one time, with a round diamond. I loved it, weighty, pretty, and great quality as yours is so I understand your attachment to it!

I think it would be hard to add side stones because your band is cathedral (sides come up). I think it would be hard to do it on a non-cathedral
(and look like its not an add-on) but yours has the added difficulty. Could it be done...possibly? Does it make sense? That's the real question.

I dont think you need to worry about your prongs hitting the separator ring. The diamonds in your prongs may eventually eat away at the
separator ring but that's what its for (an inexpensive ring that you can easily replace or repolished down the road).

Thanks for the advice! Yeah I figured it would be difficult to add. And I really dont want to buy a new setting because I really do love the feel of this one (and it was expensive).

What surprises me is some people dont use spacer rings and have had no issues. Maybe they are unaware? What makes me the most sad is I asked the sales rep COUNTLESS times to make sure "this will be safe for the wedding band, and this will sit flush". I went through countless CAD designs to make sure. I received the band on the day of my wedding and luckily I saw it sit flush. But then a few days after my wedding it dawned on me - diamonds chip diamonds. Made me really sad. I just dont understand why the sales rep said I wouldnt need a spacer and didnt mentioned the diamonds on the prong would be problematic for my wedding band

I really like your set and dont think the separator band distracts from it at all. I would leave it as is!

I don’t have diamonds on my prongs and the diamond band next to it is eating the prongs. I bought a small spacer but I need a wider one. I get your problem.
